DR dB - in some parts, guinea pig is considered quite the delicacy!  ;)
How true, how true!

For example, in his section on mashed potatoes in The Cook's Canon: 101 Classic Recipes Everyone Should Know, Raymond Sokolov discusses how Peruvians like their potatoes in soup, or chopped and fried.  To quote exactly:

Quote
You do not find mashed potatoes in Cuzco next to your Cuy Chactado (split grilled guinea pig, head still attached).

EDI,
On the deductability of trips, my understanding has always been that it's not an issue of whether you make a profit, it's whether you were TRYING to. I will, of course, bow to FJL's judgement on all tax matters.

Oh, I am always trying to make a profit, or at least pay myself for the work!

Of course, I also could have been lining up a subject matter for the next documentary I work on and making contacts regarding that.

And I had breakfast with DF John, who talked to me about working on the film he has coming up, so...

He mentioned a post house in Atlanta (in the same building where I edited THE BRAIN) and asked if I would be comfortable editing there. Now that I'm typing this, maybe he was asking whether I would be comfortable and therefore assuming he would be, too? I guess I won't worry about it until he actually gets his investors lined up, which is one reason why he and James Ivory are coming to Atlanta.

If you would like to invest in the film, you, too can meet him!

Or come to a film gala for only $150 and it also can be a reality! Of course, you'd have to fly to Atlanta but you can have the couch!

Congrats on your massive millstone, Ron!

Talkin' about milestones, someone just had his seven-month anniversary on the forum two days ago!

Congratulations, DR widsnag

(And what kind of freaky monkey's paw is that in the picture?  With painted nails, yet!)

For ask bk day:

Do you remember either of these films that aired on the Z Channel:

"Writer's Block", a black and white short about a writer's nightmarish fantasy as he tries to start the first page of his novel and gets hit by giant typewriter keys, ants crawling out and all over the pages, etc.?

Greg and I both worked on that---in fact, that's where we met!

or "American Signoff", which was the song "Oh beautiful, for spacious skies", featuring a woman dressed in purple ("purple mountains") standing on the wing of a plane?

Just wondering...

Wonder if DR ELMORE is under water?

Or if DR PENNYO is enjoying her lamb....or if DR MBARNUM has checked into the Hotel California?

My mother and my sister went shopping and one of the things they were looking for was a dress for one of my other sisters to wear to the wedding.

I went shopping someplace else....and saw a dress that would be perfect.  They weren't FOR SURE going to buy a dress for her....only if they found one....so....I bought the one I found.

She may end up with two.....but it is pretty....and it was on sale (no returns, you know).

How well did it fit you?  And is that a factor in determining if it fits her?

I wonder if Penny-O sings "Little Lamb" as she munches on a cold lamb sammich.

My family celebrated all sorts of special occasions at the Oak Room.  It's in the Plaza, and I hope it'll resurface after the renovation.

A friend of mine grew up at the Algonquin.  I'm sure he'll confirm that if the Algonquin's calling anything The Oak Room, it's a recent innovation.
According to the Algonquin's own website, their Oak Room Cabaret first opened in November of 1939, fell in stature during WW2, and came back to prominance in the 1980's.  That gives something like forty years when it wasn't well known - more than a generation.

Again! (Brain reference) -- just in case you missed it when bk posted it, not just because I want you to read the part about Cason, again!  ;) .... dang, why couldn't this blogger have been a casting agent and handed Boo-Key a card and told him "Call me. I have a role for you!"

I'm going to modify this post because it is a bit snarky.  I got an email from BJ last night on whether a certain agent showed up for a performance of "The Brain." I had given his name and address to both Cason and BJ before they left LA and told them to call him, stop in and see him, or to invite him to the show.  To  my knowledge, nothing was done by either actor to get any agents or casting personnel in to the show to see them. Now the're back in LA and it's all old news, and essentially any momentum of the good reviews to find representation has been wasted.

I've tried, George, God knows I've tried!
