Too, too many great Gershwin songs to contemplate. . . .

Ain't that the truth! No way to narrow it down to just one....

I had a DVR cache full of shows to clear out over the weekend including "Smallville," "Supernatural", "Ugly Betty", "Grey's Anatomy", "Ghost Whisperer" and "Moonlight."

Yesterday I had to catch up with "Desperate Houswives" and "Brothers and Sisters" because I was watching DVDs Sunday evening.

SPOILERS[/b]

Of all those shows, two truly stood out:  Sunday's "Brothers and Sisters" was emotionally draining.  Despite the flawed writing that took Justin back into the Army with an addiction history (would NEVER happen!!!), the return of the wounded Justin was realistic and intense and extremely moving.  And now he will have to face excruciating pain or run the risk of becoming, again, addicted should he begin taking pain killers.

Most of the cast members had strong writing in this episode.

The other standout was "Smallville."  This episode was s-u-p-e-r-b -- in writing, execution, special effects.  Everything was "on" and no holds were barred.   This series is apparently moving into a very new and intriguing direction.  CK, aka Kal-El, is going to begin "training" at his Fortress of Solitude.  Perhaps our CK will learn, finally, to "fly."

Uh, Sis, I don't think that's the sort of "draining" Ron was talking about. But I guess I should let Ron be the judge of that!

My verdict:  Ms. Snarkie raises the ACME hammer in the air as if to strike a blow but drops it on her own head, a la Wile E. Coyote!

Mee-Meep!

Your verdict? Over turned, over ruled and thrown out in the ACME trash can! Snarkie Coyote shakes it off and pulls out her ACME anvil and takes dead aim at Snarkrunner down in the canyon ....

And you can never have too much icing (I can't believe all this talk about rationing out Monkey Cake icing, and rationing out Levain cookies -- you folks must be pod people!)

Good Morning! once again...

Well... We're already at lunch.  I think we saw around 20-25 people this morning.  It was a very specific call - they're only looking for certain roles, certain types, so I guess that was good.  However, this afternoon is another "specific call", so we're guessing we'll be out of here by 3:00.

...And then I can head home and take a nap.  ;)

Hmm... I guess I should go to lunch, but I'm not really that hungry.  However, the new Japanese curry place is just a block away, Go! Go! Curry.  Quite good - and cheap.  Although, there's also the chinese bakery to consider too.  Strangely enough, all I think I really want is a Jamba Juice or something like that.

Better the rationing than becoming "chunky monkeys"!

Hmm... The Washington National Opera is here today too holding auditions.  It's been fun listening - through the walls - to some of the divas who are auditioning.  The woman who is singing right now seems quite good - nice high notes and her coloratura and fioratura seems clean too.  -OH!  I think she just hit a nice High-E! :)

I miss you more!  :-*

Case is back in LA safe and sound. His heart is still hurting over the break-up with his not-forever lovin' -- but I have no doubt he'll bounce back when he's had time to process it all and move on. As we all know, it just takes some time....

As for the Topic of the Day...

"How Long Has This Been Going On?"

"The Man That Got Away"

As for performers... I love Maureen McGovern's live studio recording of Gershwin Songs, "Naughty Baby".  A great collection of songs, arrangements and that wonderful voice.  I'm still sort of surprised (and shocked) that there were some bad reviews of the album when it first came out from some of the "purists".

By my estimation, DR JoseSPiano has had to be up and active for a whole half an hour already.

The things we do for our art!

And I was surprisingly awake when I got here at 8:15 too.  Alas, the first auditionee did not come in until 9:00, so...  At least I had time to head downstairs to get a bite to eat.

Tomorrow is a callback day, and it looks like it will be another light schedule, so I may not have to be here until 9:00, and then we'll be done in the early afternoon.  *And I'm still on the clock for today and tomorrow until 5:00 - Bonus!

You say "toe-MAY-toe"
And I say "toe-MAH-toe"

You say "poe-TAY-toe"
And I say "poe-TAH-toe"

"Toe-MAY-toe"
"Toe-MAH-toe"
"Poe-TAY-toe"
"Poe-TAH-toe"

"Let's call the whole thing off!"

Radio personality Jonathan Schwartz talks about the amusing period when this song was brand new.  Before recordings had widely been disseminated, some UK personalities recorded this song, learning it just from the sheet music, and not realizing the irony in the differing pronunciations of the key words.  Without which, of course, the song makes little sense!

There is also the joke about the clewless audition singer who does the same thing with the song - repeating "tomato, tomato" and "potato, potato."  The audition panel cuts her off:  "That will be all, Miss Levine." [Luh-veen]  She then curtly corrects them: "That's LEVINE!"  [Luh-VINE].
