Good morning, good day, how are you this beautiful day?  I am groggy, after a pretty good night's sleep.

I just heard a contractor, presumably from Boston, pronounce the word "carpet."

Oh, was he adding a roof extension to protect an automobile parked beneath?

Lower Standards Help Army Recruit MoreTuesday, October 10, 2006

About 17 percent of the first-time recruits, or about 13,600, were accepted under waivers for various medical, moral or criminal problems, including misdemeanor arrests or drunk driving. That is a slight increase from last year, the Army said.
Of those accepted under waivers, more than half were for "moral" reasons, mostly misdemeanor arrests. Thirty-eight percent were for medical reasons and 7 percent were drug and alcohol problems, including those who may have failed a drug test or acknowledged they had used drugs.

The Army said the waiver process recognizes that people can overcome past mistakes and become law abiding citizens.

Looking forward to my usual TV suspects tonight: BONES, HOUSE, and DAMAGES. (Recording SVU and BOSTON LEGAL).

And I have to add my NBC trio -NCIS, The Unit, and Cane.

That sounds as if they abandoned ZERO tolerance in both drug and alcohol abuse.  Breaches of both were automatic discharges under other than honorable conditions just a decade ago.

It's the sole channel I block.

I don't want a single Fox "News" blip to enter my home when I'm channel surfing.

That's OK. Ny nearly 24/7 watching makes up for you.

I sleep with FNC on - it scares away other nightmares.

Didja hear the one abut the three boulders who went into a bar, only to leave -- highly insulted -- moments later?

One of them ordered a scotch on the rocks and the bartender threw it on them.

I'm sure maintaining an all-volunteer armed services in today's environment is a daunting task; at a minimum we need significant pay increases and an expanded force to balance out deployment time. Even the most optimistic scenario has 50-75,000 troops in the Iraqi area for the next 2-3 years. All this talk about reinstating the draft is certainly a non-starter.

Good Afternoon!

As for my appetite/hunger/cravings for today... Well, since I actually had a sort of sensible breakfast - yogurt with honey, blueberries and granola - as well as a whole wheat bagel with lox and cream cheese to knosh on during the morning session, I really did not feel the need for a big lunch  So, instead, I headed on over to Hale & Hearty Soups, and got a small cup of their Chicken and Sausage Jambalaya.  -Oh, and I also got a carrot/beet/spinach/ginger juice from the health food place on the corner.  Sensible.

Of course, there's still dinner to go.  And the afternoon snack, so...
