Today, for National Coming Out Day, my company is sponsoring a lunchtime seminar hosted by Kenji Yoshino, professor of law and deputy dean for intellectual life at Yale Law School.

In his new book COVERING: The Hidden Assault on Our Civil Rights,Yoshino presents a new way of thinking about civil rights. Why do we let the pressures of society force us to “cover,” to tone down an aspect of our personality so we fit in with the mainstream? Who decides what is and isn’t socially acceptable? And, in a culture that often unfairly demands conformity, how can we present our authentic selves? Fusing legal manifesto with his own personal story, Yoshino throws down the gauntlet for a new paradigm of civil rights.

Sorry i missed all the hellos. I must have logged off!

BTW, DR TCB, I didn't get a chance to post yesterday. But you had mentioned MTV CANADA. Actually i do not get this station (my sis does). But i can see what they are playing in my television's guide.

Although maybe it's a good thing my sis will not be taping LEGALLY BLONDE, since i have yet to see HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 2 she taped for me. :)

"Pawky and Bess" premiered on Broadway Oct. 10, 1935.

That's correct and tomorrow is the 72nd anniversary of the opening of the Cole Porter-Moss Hart musical JUBILEE, with such great song hits as "Begin the Beguine," "Just One of Those Things," "Why Shouldn't I?" and "Me and Marie," the anticipated hit of the show.  I also like "Mr & Mrs Smith" and "The Kling-Kling Bird in the Divi-Divi Tree."

Good morning, all!

I love this show!  I guess i can get why it would not be everyone's cup of tea.  But i just love it.  I love Chuck and i love Ned. I love the little mysteries they have to solve.  And i love Chi McBride (big black guy fomerly of BOSTON PUBLIC).

And i loved kristin's song. It made me smile too!

and "Me and Marie"

Which Donny Osmond could sing in bk's benefit, except it doesn't fit the theme.

Oh well!

And OMG I love poutine!  I don't eat it that often.  But it is so good!

Btw, speaking of fries. I went out to lunch with my niece last weekend (she just turned 2). We were eating hotdogs and french fries (she loves them both).  And i was dipping my fries in ketchup.

Well she wanted to copy me. So she picked up her french fry and leaned over and dipped it in the ketchup. So cute!  She claimed she liked it and kept doing it! :)

DR Cillaliz that is too funny that we both like the same couple on DANCING WITH THE STARS!

And yep i am surprised.

But i still think that boxer has a lot of potential. His personality sort of rubs me the wrong way a bit. But i like karina a lot and i really think he has potential.

There are some people that to me no matter how hard they try, they could never win (like wayne newton for example).

I"m curious, the judges keep saying this is the best group they've ever had. I don't think so. Do you?

I personally think that there are just more celebs who are better. But i don't feel like there are many who have the potential to be great.  I really don't think marie osmond, jane seymour, or jennie garth will ever be great. And while i like them, i was actually a bit bothered that their scores were so high.

Thursday morning greetings!  After 3 more hours of sick leave yesterday, I'm at work for what I hope will be a full day.  It's a fairly quiet day for me, so maybe I can wade through all that's piled up on my desk.

We watched I Think I Do! on DVD last night.  Enjoyed it, and Tuc Watkins was indeed wonderful.

Why do I now have the urge to purchase this little item?

I'm quite fond of I THINK I DO and I love the cast, especially Lauren Velez and Guillermo Diaz and my freidn Marni Nixon in a very understated performance.  I think Tuc Watkins is a complete hoot as Sterling and there are some hysterical throw-away lines from him.

Hey, gang! I'm an old-time Kimlet/Hainesie who has been away for far too long. Don't know if I'll be able to drop in on a regular basis, but wanted to at least give a quick wave and say "hi!"

As for today's topic of discussion (remember the topic of discussion?): I've been turning into a Scrabble addict (one of my colleagues is a former nationally top-rated player), and that's about it. I love chess in theory, but am far too frustrated trying to get past the most basic concepts. I used to love Monopoly, but haven't played in centuries. With the little one now 2 years old, I expect that Candy Land and Chutes & Ladders are in my future....

Mister fritz invented schlitz and schlitz must pay

Sing that fast three times!!

Hello, DR Elan - pleased to make your acquaintance!

I remember "Chutes & Ladders" and "Candyland" fondly from my remote youth.

Still remote, but less so:
Clue
Careers
Monopoly [which I disliked because it took so long]

Well I am not sure what these video previews for this book are - BUT my friend ZACH is featured in them as the main guy character....

Video previews for a book?  Didn't know such a thing existed.

Clicking on the second one with the Rose illustration will give you a nice look at Zach.  ;D

Sorry, but we'll just have to agree to disagree about PUSHING DAISIES. I did very much enjoy Kristin's song and the very imaginative routine she had with the janitor. Best part of the show for me by a wide, wide margin.

But the precious narration bothers me to distraction, I find Chuck annoying rather than endearing, and the mystery was so slight and so easily solved that it was no fun.

One more week and then I'll probably be losing this hour of TV and going back to DVDs which would be fine. I need the time.

Dear all Haines and Kimlets:

Last night when I returned home from work and went to pick up my mail from the last several days; I found a postcard from NYC with many of the New York gangs' signatures.

I am so touched and honored that you thought of me in that way and that you took the time to sign the card and send it to me.

I really wish that I could have been there,

Thank you all again.

It really means a lot to me.
