And as of this afternoon.....

WE HAVE A GRAND NEPHEW!!![/b]

Every time I think about the baby I get rather emotional.

My brother called me from the hospital, even before the baby was weighed.  All I know is he at least 8 pounds.  I'm waiting to hear more details.

I wasn't the only concerned one, my brother was and the mother wanted her mother with her in the room, which was ok with my nephew.  I think more family members would have been permitted if there weren't concerns during the deliver.  But all is well!   :D

Great news, Jane!! :D

OK, now, while you're pumping those weights, Charlie, you've got to remember to chant - "I must, I must, I must increase my bust!"

...The tighter the sweater,
The bigger, the better!
I must.  I must!  I must!!

Yes, Dell is the only company still selling pre-installed XP and in June IIRC they will stop selling it. That's why I wanted to get the new computer now. If you don't depend on certain old programs and are willing to buy some new peripherals (printer, scanner, etc) Vista can be good from what I hear but if you already have time and money invested in other programs and equipment and all you need is a new computer then XP is the way to go, IMHO.

Ben, I'm glad you're happy with your XP, but don't fear Vista. My new office computers are both Vista and all my old software works as well as my peripherals. I just had to download a couple patches and Vista goes to the net, looks for the patches and downloads them for you.  In general I'm very happy with it. It does a few annoying things, but they are mostly like asking for permission to change anything and I could probably turn that off if I wanted to

I'm wondering how traumatic it would be to switch over from PC to Mac?  Can most peripherals [monitors, printers, speakers, etc., etc.] work with both?

Jane, Lent (the 40 days before Easter) begins next week. Easter is early this year.

Dear Reader Laura, Jane has a good point.  Early or not, Easter is still in March, not February.

That's sweet.  Sadly, I don't get to L.A. all that often.  It is too far to drive, & pricey to go anywhere from our Medford airport.  I going to try & go more often now, maybe without Keith & Sherlock ;D.

I'm keep telling the parents to get a web cam :)

Jane: What will your grand nephew be named?

If they're not sure yet, you might suggest "Bruiser".

OK, it's official, I am indeed having the day from hell.  I had just dropped the kids off at school (did I mention it's a "snow day"--meaning approximately 3 snowflakes fell, sending the entire city into a panic--so they started 2 hours late), then dropped by Border's to return a mispackaged Miss Marple set (two of one movie, which I hadn't noticed).  Asked two salespeople where the companion book for PBS's "Jewish Americans" was, both of them said they had never heard of it.  The second looked it up on the computer and said it wasn't in stock.  I decided to look it up, and it was indeed in stock.  The saleslady then told me she was too busy and referred me to the manager who, instead of just walking to the screen I already had up with the item on it, went through a several minute rigamarole giving me the third degree on book title, author, release date, blah, blah, blah.  He then curtly took me over to the Jewish History section, where they had AN ENTIRE FRIGGING SHELFFUL OF THE DAMNED BOOK.  Oy!

Then I stopped at Fred Meyer to pick up a mileage book for one of our cars, was in the store all of 30 seconds and returned to find someone had parked their car literally 1/2 inch away from my driver's side.  Absolutely no way for me to even fit in there sideways, let alone open the door.  So I get to trundle back in the store and have them announce over the PA that the owner of the car needs to move it.  Go back out and wait and about 10 minutes later this daffy little old lady comes out, completely oblivious.  I point to how close she is to my car and her retort is, "Well the car next to me was too far over."  FIND ANOTHER PARKING SPACE, THEN!!!!!

My head is going to explode.

Can we say "Manopause?"

I don't know about how well peripherals might or might not work, but I've heard that it's a lot easier for users to switch from a PC to a Mac than from a Mac to a PC. :)
