Time to get to the job.  Won't be off until 10:30 tonight, then I'm back at the registers at 9:00 tomorrow morning.

So I might not be back tonight.

The thing is, unlike some whiners around here, I like my job.

I'll be back here when I can get here.

I don't recall reading any comments from anyone begging you not to go or to spend less time at work.

Do please enjoy yourself.  Don't give a thought to us.

And I'm guessing some of those -- how did you put it"  "Whiners"? was it? -- aren't being sufficiently challenged in their workplace.

Glad you aren't one of them.

I may also remember to buy the most recent David Hobson CD today. I may also accidently copy it and then be wondering what to do with the copies.  Suggestions?

Then, I watched BECOMING JANE. It's a lovely film, filled with details that it's obvious the screenwriters have taken from the various books to give the film credence. Cast is wonderful. Maggie Smith has a small part that she milks for all it's worth. Julie Walters is also good as Jane's mother. Anne Hathaway sounded like she'd been studying Emma Thompson in SENSE AND SENSIBILITY. Her accent and manner seemed very similar.

Then, I began exploring the various bonus features on the Blu-ray disc. There are 13 deleted scenes, none vital to the film. (In the commentary, the director stated the first cut of the movie ran 3 hours. The movie now runs 2 hours, so they cut a lot more than they put in the deleted section.)

There's a "making of" documentary that runs about 18 minutes. Not much depth, but it's good to meet a lot of key personnel connected to the movie.

I began the film again with two extra things turned on - a footnote and annotation feature where pop-up information rises up at appropriate times. And I had the commentary track on which is VERY low-key (dare I say a trifle dull) where the writer, producer, and director talk SO SLOWLY and SO QUIETLY that I found it hard to pay much attention to what they were saying. The annotations were a lot for interesting than their comments.

I got about 30 minutes of the film rewatched with this feature. I'll complete it when I go back down.

DR JMK, in re Jeanette MacDonald.

I'll never forget an article in Stereo Review probably 40 years ago. It was on the release of a MacDonald-Eddy collection of their hits recorded in the 1930s.

Anyway, the title of the review was "Is It Possible That Two American Musical Icons Couldn't Actually Sing?" The writer did not think either of them was very good.

Sorry for my errant and truant behavior - I got up later than planned and then had to rush to package up orders and LPs and go to the post office to ship same, which I did.  When I got back, I began the day's writing, first by doing some revisions to yesterday's work, and then mushing on with today's.

And I'm happy to announce that at one-twenty I finished writing a new novel - five weeks and one day from the time I began.  I'm sure I'll futz and fix and add and subtract from today's work, but the book is done, and later when I'm through futzing, I shall print out pages, Xerox pages, and then get them to muse Margaret.

Just for a change of pace:  I've today ordered the first two seasons of the ridiculous, off-the-wall, hilarious TV comedy "Perfect Strangers" starring Bronson Pinchot and Mark Linn-Baker.  I'm doing the "dance of joy" in my head at the prospect of it!

Oh, my gosh I used to love that show.

Still no money from my cabaret lady.  Damn!

I get the impression the screenwriters were working from the Austen family and Jane Austen letters that Cassandra didn't destroy.

Does anyone know off the top (or other section) of their heads what mechanicals are these days?  I haven't licensed anything for a few years but my bossa nova group is going to record a new CD and it looks like I'm in charge of the Harry Fox hoo-hah.

Yes, it's mentioned in the commentary, but they also embellished things here and there throughout the film based on characters and events from the novels.

I meant to mention that in the mail today, I still didn't get GONE BABY GONE, but from Paramount, I did get two items: one a kid's cartoon DVD (straight to video) and Robert Zemeckis' BEOWULF. This doesn't come out until February 26th. So many things to watch before I can get to it.

The thing is, unlike some whiners around here, I like my job.

I'll be back here when I can get here.

Which was 5 minutes  later ... the meltable Chef came scurring home because of the precipitation and asked for taxi service.

Speaking of...I have one lodged in my tire.

My client just suggested that we start at 11 tomorrow, so I will have time to get it fixed on my way to work. Yay!
