What is a Gold Box?

The "serious" reply to your question, Tom, is that it's a daily feature at Amazon.com in which a product is heavily discounted for the day or until the designated quantity identified for the discount has been exhausted.

Sometimes, the deals are really good.  And sometimes, they seem lame to me (but probably really good to others).

Today's was "lame" to me....

Yes, Lost was great last night.  My qualms after the first episode have abated.  Though I do wonder now if the flash-forwards were (ahem) a flash in the pan.  Or maybe they will stick with the "forwards" for established characters whilst doing flashbacks for the new ones.

At this stage of the game, I think they've exhausted the backstories of the original core people from Season 1. I'm sure there's much more to learn about newer people like Ben and Juliet and possibly even Desmond, but I can't see much point getting another Jack backstory.

Oy--I will be reviewing a 14 disc History Channel set of America at War.  Can't we all just get along?  ;)

Better you than me! I have that four disc Criterion set of THE LAST EMPEROR to get through in about 10 days that will be something of a trial (I'm not the movie's biggest fan though I hope maybe I've softened to it in all the years since I've seen it), so 14 discs especially dealing with war would not be my choice to watch if I HAD a choice.

Thanks, Coleslaw!

And yes, that is a real bowtie, but I had a costumer who tied it for me every night.

You'll miss going in to work, you know you will.

I haven't. Not one day in the seven years I've been retired.

Yes, I think I learned the Saltine lesson - I think the same thing happened last time I had food poisoning.  And funnily, I've always heard that 7-Up is calming, but it has never been calming, not once - I think someone from 7-Up started that old wives' tale.  I do much better with Diet Coke, frankly.  That has never caused my nausea to get worse, whereas Snapple has.

Same with me, bk. When I've been nauseous, neither 7-Up nor ginger ale soothes me. Coke/Diet Coke always has.

It was a very beautiful day out if just a trifle too cool to go without a jacket. Still, more like early spring than winter.

I began my afternoon viewing with last night's SUPERNATURAL. An interesting episode, sort of borrowed from DREAMSCAPE, and with some chilling moments.

What a difference getting to watch this in hi def makes! Having to watch it in SD last week due to a preemption really affected my enjoyment. HD makes one VERY SPOILED for wanting all HD entertainment.

Next, I watched GONE BABY GONE in Blu-ray. It's only moderately successful as a mystery (I figured it out early), but as a character study and the repercussions affecting those involved in the investigation, it was very affecting. Oh, that last three or four scenes of the movie were SO emotionally charged (internally for the viewer) even though all the bullets and bloodshed were over! My insides were churning over the dilemma of the final decision.

Next, I watched the bonus features. Two features were kind of throaways. A few minutes of behind-the-scenes stuff and about 10 minutes on the casting of the stars and the casting of regular Boston citizens in small roles.

There were six deleted/extended scenes with commentary by Ben Afllfeck and co-writer Aaron Stockard. I can see why they removed all of the scenes and think they made wise decisions in all of the instances.

Tonight, when I go back down, I'll rewatch the movie with Affleck and Stockard's running commentary. Hope they'll a little more animated than they were talking during the deleted scenes. It was hard to get them to grunt aloud, much less talk.

I finished the afternoon by skimming through AS THE WORLD TURNS from today. Yes, Luke was on in a couple of scenes with his parents and grandmother. Nothing with Noah.

They were not in the previews for next week.

Dear Ginny, I too remember the older Borders in A2, when it wasn't even Borders. Their new one(on Liberty) has aisles that keep getting wider and wider,Borders is more like B&N used to be and B&N is improving; Go figure.

I'll vote for "Crash" as being the worst film ever to win Best Picture.

Room temperature Coke or ginger ale work better for me

Well, I played for about 210 or so people today.  I'm done for the day(!), and I'm about to head to The Cupboard for a late lunch/early dinner.  :)
