And what is trendy and hip in LA is old hat everywhere else.

PS: Has everyone noticed?  Ron P. and I are now both ahead of the trendy and hip of LA.  Whoda thunk we'd ever be hip together?

I'd a never thunk it!

That photo of tapas reminded me of how much I miss Italian anti-pasti!

We have bags of edamame in our freezer section.  How cool is that?  (F or C, your choice.)

I heard on the news over this past weekend that the sugar refinery explosion in Georgia last week was caused by the ignition of sugar dust.

Who knew sugar dust was flammable??!!??

Knowing that now, I do worry about some of our "lot"....if sugar dust can flare up, what will happen to fairy dust?

I'm just sayin'........

 ;D  ;D
I, too, found last week's story about sugar dust strangely comic.

Mine went into the mail last week. Of course, that doesn't guarantee timely delivery.

And, speaking of chipotles, Michael Ruhlman writes in his blog:

Quote
...Last night, my father brought over some steaks to grill, so I made the above compound butter—a maitre d butter with some espelette pepper thrown in for some zing as well as minced shallot.  If I’d had chipotles in adobo sauce, I’d have used those. ...

Great photo by his wife, Donna!  Only... can butter ever be trendy with the trendy and the hip?  Aren't they supposed to be afraid of butter?

As for tapas bars, we've had one in my 'hood for twelve years or so. I've never been in it. It replaced a really nice restaurant whose name just escaped me--Tavola, that's it! Some clever business people thought they'd create a restaurant with great food, but without the high prices, and Tavola was the result. I was not happy when Tavola closed. Jose, do  you know anything about that?

Valentines done through the mail, and not in person?

Does that mean the mailman gets the kiss in thanks?

Time to head in to work.  Regular register today, green sweatshirt, not the red shirt.

As for restaurant preferences, I concur with many of Jose's points. I do not like noisy restaurants. Last year for my birthday a friend took me to dinner at a very expensive restaurant. The food was good, but not great, the tables were small and shoved tightly together, and it was noisy, noisy, noisy. I'd much prefer an inexpensive meal with good food and good company.

In this cold weather, no one even gets to see what colored shirt the cart-wranglers are wearing!   :(

Yes, DR Jeanne - it is surprisingly difficult to find a quiet restaurant where you can just talk.

;D  Even in Ashland, Tapas & edamame have been "hip" for years.

We too keep bags of edamame in the freezer, Keith has even grown it in the garden.

Something like that.

This romantic holiday (named for a Catholic saint) falls during Lent.
Does anyone else find this ironic?

As for "Tapas" (just one "p") and "edamame", etc... Well.. BK... Since you only ever mention dining at Genghis Cohen, Jerry's Deli, that BBQ Place, Firebirds, etc... Well... Just sayin'.  ;)
