DR FJL - I keep thinking about "But Alive" - and DR JMK can extoll the virtues of the score....but I am reticent.  Oh yes, I am reticent.

Yes, DR Jeanne - it is surprisingly difficult to find a quiet restaurant where you can just talk.

Well, personally, I like to both talk and eat. But that's just me.

I don't mind restaurant servers only reciting the daily specials, but I *do* mind ordering one, and finding out at the end of the meal that it was twice as expensive as anything else on the menu. Granted, I don't go out to save money (and higher end kosher restaurants in NYC are very expensive compared to similar non-kosher venues), but I'd like some warning about paying more for a single entree than my two companions' complete meals combined.

I've never been too embarrased to ask, "And how much is that?"

Neither am I, at this point. Expensive lesson learned; then again, the food was almost worth it, so I can't complain all that much.

If Lauren Bacall approaches you, offering a lap dance, you're going to stop her and ask "How much is that"?    ;)

What are the chances of Lost Horizon [1973] ever being released on DVD?

Good morning, all! Unless the Institute finally pays us today or the damned cabaret lady comes through I am about as overdrawn as a body can get and not thrilled about any of it.  I hate this crap.  I could use some financial vibes today.

I, of course, have Lost Horizon on DVD - I'd have to assume they'll get around to it at some point.

I have done all the stuff I needed to do for tonight's production meeting, as well as done some work at the piano.

This drive to this theater is probably going to be a bit of a slog at times - it's almost an hour drive and that's with NO traffic.  WITH traffic they say up to two-and-a-half hours.  Oy and vey.  I'll head out there at five today, but I think when we're actually in rehearsal I'll leave at three-thirty or four to try to avoid the traffic, then just have a leisurely meal pre rehearsal.

Well, the meeting that's supposed to begin my day tomorrow has been postponed.  And the instructor of the college class that's supposed to visit for a database demo tomorrow afternoon just called to say that they probably won't come.  The national weather map shows one storm coming from the NW and another from the SW and it looks like they'll converge right on top of us.  The forecasts are using the phrase "significant icing."  Yikes!

I was just thinking about that this morning, Sing.  I have a nice VHS dub from the laserdisc (with the cut elements).  I guess I could burn my own for the time being.

And did you know that with a QAM tuner, you can do away with the digital settop box and use the analog cable connection only. The QAM tuner pulls in all the unscrambled HDTV signals. The TV that I have now has both a digital tuner (ATSC) and a QAM tuner, so I can choose HDTV from multiple sources. Over-the-air signals contain far less compression and can be much sharper and more detailed than the (of necessity) heavily compressed signals that cable and dish customers must use.

That's fine for you "out in the air" boys. Those of us who dwell in the "holler" have no access to over the air TV, satellite TV, or even cell-phones! Our Cable company encodes all but the very basic channels, so a set-top box is a must (and it is part of the DVR).

And speaking of "trendy"...

Last night on FoodTV's "Throwdown with Bobby Flay", the topic was chocolate chip cookies, and Flay did a throwdown with, you guessed it, LEVAIN - I mean, this was no contest! Poor Bobby.

I just cannot feel any sympathy for Flay; sorry, but how this man ever managed to wrangle his way into the company of Batali et al defies my understanding. I'd rather watch Emeril, and I can't *stand* Emeril...

You asked for an explanation, der Brucer, and I gave you the reasons why I felt it was important FOR ME. I said at the start of the explanation that what you had was fine for you.

I think it warmed up more here today than they were expecting. We weren't supposed to get out of the 40s today, but I'm sure it's in the upper 50s at least.
