I don't always have snacks and dessert...

Umm...

Well...

Nevermind.

Thanks for the assist, DRs Cillaliz and TCB!

*Now, I still think it would be nice of DR JMK to adjust the formatting of his Hindemith Lament post so that it doesn't put us into DOUBLE-WIDESCREEN.  ;)   -It will help the DRs who will be catching up on the posts later on.[/i]

In any case...

DR JMK - Sorry to harp.  But I was reading in a badly lit rehearsal studio all day today, so... My eyes are tired.

I learned a valuable lesson today.  Don not try to cook the cheap grade of hamburger on a gas grill.  The result is incinerated beef..

I took Mae-Ling and Wae-Ling for a very long walk today, and now I am tired. I hope they are, too.

I have been eating so much lately. I think it's the weather, but there is more of me than there used to be, and frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn

Had a nice breakfast with MBarnum, then got a call from a book dealer friend reminding me this was the last day of the big book fair in Century City, so I went over there and visited him and checked out all the dealers and books.

I always dreamed of having a big brother.  But in my dream, he wasn't a reality television show.

One dealer, who shall remain nameless (Kevin at Royal Books) took the cake for the most outrageously outrageous prices I've ever seen on books that until HE got them, were never that rare.  Not that anyone is paying his absolutely inane prices, but you can just see what he's trying to do to up the market in his niche (books into films, especially noir) and I find it reprehensible and nauseating.  He has my former copy of Cornell Woolrich's The Bride Wore Black, which I purchased a little over ten years ago at a book fair in Burbank for the then fairly high price of $1300.  This yahoo is now charging $12,500.  I mean, he's out of his sick mind.  And all his books are like that - things that just a few years ago you could get for $500 he's got for $5,000.  Dealers like this singlehandedly ruin book collecting for everyone, including other dealers.

I visited with my book dealer pal, David Aronovitz, and even his books were priced higher than ususal.  There were some very pretty books at the fair, though, and it's always fun to handle them.

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up...  And, thankfully(?), I could hear my cellphone vibrating in my coat pocket this morning a little after 9:00...  "Hi, Jose... I don't remember if we checked to see if you were available today, and you said you weren't available, but if you happen to be available..."  Another pianist came down with the flu, so...

After racing through my morning ablutions, I was down at the rehearsal studio about an hour later with a copy of the Sunday Times and an egg and bacon sandwich from the café on the corner.

It was sort of a slow-paced day for me, but the flow of individuals coming through the door of the studio was pretty constant. It was all individual calls and work sessions today, and I found myself star-struck a few times throughout the day.  :)

However, since I was without my laptop, and since their was no cellphone reception in the rehearsal studio, I was able to read the NY Times cover to cover, which is something I haven't done in a long time.  Between playing ever couple of minutes and working my way section by section through the paper, I had a very good day.

Can I assume that the Edison Cafe is not located in the Edison Hotel?

Trying to decide whether to watch Monte Carlo, The Simpson's Movie, or the new Special Edition of The Wiz.

The Edison Cafe is, in fact, located in the Edison Hotel.  Alas, the Edison Theatre (former home to Oh, Calcutta! is no longer.
