Well, that's better than waking up in a Nevada hotel room with a hangover, a stranger, and a marriage certificate.

Speaking from experience or was that one of the things you thought I should try??

I know people have seen last year's movies because they've sure been talked about a lot.
I haven't. I live under a rock.

I don't live under a rock, but yesterday I was thinking about moving to another planet.

Of course, many of you know that I live on Planet Jeanne.

Althought I go to far fewer movies at the cinema now than I used to before the advent of DVDs and HD paycable channels, I keep up information about the new films because I know I will eventually be seeing them, if not on DVD then on HBO/Showtime/Starz, and I want to be able to choose whether to give them my time beforehand or not, just as if I were choosing to go to a cinema to see them.

I believe MATTH was the only DR to cast his Oscar votes here. Surely others must have some opinions.

I spent a major part of my afternoon watching and sobbing through MEET JOE BLACK. Yes, it takes DEATH TAKES A HOLIDAY and stretches it WAY out, but the length is justified since there are so many plotlines going on in the remake.

I saw the movie at the theater and once before on DVD, but I had totally forgotten that Jake Weber (Joe Dubois on MEDIUM) was a co-star in the film! I didn't remember him at all from the movie, so when he turned up so early in the film, I was just stunned. No use raving about the HD encoding. It looked superb.

Clair Forlani is one of my least favorite English actresses, but she disguises her rather harsh English accent here and is rather agreeable. Marcia Gay Harden really broke my heart with her earnest performance. Jeffrey Tambor is also terrific.

I had forgotten the happy ending completely. Not sure I liked it, though in a fantasy, I guess anything is possible.

I had a little over an hour left, so I watched the recently new DVD of THE ARISTOCATS. A fellow critic and I swapped some discs neither of us wanted, and I got this one which contains the first widescreen version of the film (also anamorphically encoded). The Dolby Digital 5.1 track is basically mono with just the slightest bit of surround activity. Disney doesn't seem to have done as thorough a clean-up of this as they have done with recent films like THE JUNGLE BOOK and PETER PAN.

I still have about ten or fifteen minutes of it left to watch.

When I go back down, I'll finish THE ARISTOCATS and then start on THINGS WE LOST IN THE FIRE.

Admit it!  You liked it!  You REALLY liked it!  And that fireworks scene is TOTALLY SPECTACULAR in HD!

Good Afternoon!

Well, it's been a semi-productive day for me so far around the apartment.  Now I just need to figure out what I want to do with my evening, if anything. I may just bundle myself up again and head out for a brief walk like I did yesterday.  We shall see.

Oh, yes. I guess I didn't make that very clear. I liked it a lot. Not perfect but very enjoyable. I love to cry at movies (close to a Cy Coleman reference).

When Brad Pitt stepped from behind that telephone kiosk in that early scene, it's just a breathtaking entrance for a male star. I do believe my heart skipped a beat.
