I've seen a lot of the movies nominated this year, but I haven't seen No Country for Old Men. I really don't have any desire to see it.  I secretly want Juno to win, just because it's the only film nominated for Best Picture that's not HEAVY or SERIOUS.  I really think There Will Be Blood shouldn't be nominated for Best Picture, but then I'm just a lawyer in Iowa so what do I know :)

8)  I'll have to send it on to a few people, beginning with my nephew.  When he was little he fell into the pool in their new home on moving day & was found hanging on to the side of the pool.  The next day the electric sliding pool cover was installed.

A few year later, while we were all watching, Bryan fell into the pool.  My nephew jumped in and pulled Bryan out.  Bryan had begun swimming lessons & I knew my nephew would get him so I was never concerned.

Years ago, when we were raising our nephew, MusicGuy and I moved into house with a pool, and I made sure that we got Wilson (who was about 3 then) swimming lessons right away and not just how to swim, but how to get out if you fall in.  I always made sure the dogs went in at least once so they knew they could get out of the pool if they ever fell in.  Wilson insisted I join in for the swimming lessons, so it was a good work out for me too.

My Picks

Best Picture:  No Country For Old Men -but I'd like to see Atonement or Juno
Best Actor:  Daniel Day-Lewis
Best Actress:  Marion Cotillard
Best Sup Actor:  Javier Bardem
Best Sup Actress:  Amy Ryan
Best Director:  Joel and Ethan Coen
Best Original Screenplay:  Juno
Best Screen Adaptation:  No Country For Old Men
Best Song:  "Falling Slowly"  Once  (I like the Enchanted songs, but think there my be a split in the votes for them. -
if it's from Enchanted I'm hoping "That's How you know"

Y I always made sure the dogs went in at least once so they knew they could get out of the pool if they ever fell in.

We had a pool when Echo was a puppy and taught her how to find the steps to get out, if she ever fell in.

After that we had no need to fear as she wouldn't go anywhere near the pool, especially if we were in it. ;D

I think we had one of the world's few Labrador Retrievers who didn't lke the water, but again, I took her in the pool a couple of times and made sure she knew how to get out.

But it HAS been nominated, it's already happened.

Now, if you had instead written "shouldn't have been nominated", I'd be able to understand your point.  But even the Doctor doesn't run around changing the past.

Well, first my parents were going to be here Monday night, on the first night of their trip out west. Then it was Sunday night because the weather Monday was questionable. Now they are leaving tomorrow morning and taking a route straight south and not stopping here at all.  LOL, it happened the same way last year. But the forecast is sleet and ice and snow on Monday, so I don't blame them for wanting to get far enough south to miss it.

It means I can sleep in and don't have to work on cleaning and cleaning.

Films we have seen that were nominated for something:
3-10 to Yuma
Transformers

That’s it :o  We liked both movies very much.

Before Sherlock we used to see a film almost every week.  LOL-I don't really miss going.  The difference is we have a much longer NetFlix queue.

Cilla, your house is clean AND you get to sleep in.  You'll still get to see your parents soon. :)

Well I haven't quite finished cleaning. But I'm relieved they aren't coming this weekend, to tell you the truth. I have plans to go to an Oscar party and it was on then off then on then off...this is a lot easier.  They are usually pretty wound up about getting the trip underway, so it isn't really a relaxing visit.

Has anyone seen this woman visiting the lion she rescued?  Sadly it is at the zoo, but he looks healthy now, and in love.

It's been weird weather - the sun was out and it was nice, then it drizzled, now it's chilly and nasty.  Go know.

I'm a little annoyed that I agreed to see a show tomorrow.  Apparently it runs under two hours, so hopefully I won't get into a traffic snag on the way home, but I really don't like being away on such a heavy posting day.  And since there will be at least a two to three hour lag between end of meeting and show, I'll bring my laptop and post from somewhere where I can glom onto someone's signal.
