It stopped raining for several hours (including while I was out for lunch), but it has just started up again. Another deluge.

Post 242...ArnoldMBrockman,

Yes, I saw his two pages after I thought of it but mine obviously came later. So be it!

Sorry, DR Arnold.

You did, however, leave out Hippity Hop!

You be right! I confused it with Matt's Hoppity Hooper.

Good Afternoon!

I'm back from the gym.  -Alas, no fitting, but, I keep going to the gym so that my clothes will fit better.

-And just like my local location in NYC, this location was s-l-o-w this afternoon.

I had passed this location many times, but had never been inside it.  I had always thought it was two floors, but it turned out that entrance/reception area was on the first floor, but the rest of the gym was on the second floor.  -The rest of the first floor space is taken up by an Office Depot store.  In any case, I had a great workout - elliptical, rowing machine, ab circuit and stretching. :)

I spent the afternoon watching Louis Malle's luxurious THE LOVERS. Gorgeous widescreen black and white photography and a very sensual story. I'm sure it caused a scandal back in the late 1950s, but it's tame enough now to garner a G rating.

The film is only 90 minutes, so I was able to start on the bonus features, too (though this is one of the "budget" Criterion DVDs so there are fewer bonus features). There are two interviews with Louis Malle - one in 1963 and one the year before his death. Both interesting views of the film which, despite its huge acclaim, was not a favorite of his.

Next will come two interviews with Jeanne Moreau, one from 1958 and one from 1972. I haven't started the first one yet. Don't know how long either will be.

Harriet Hayes, played by Sarah Paulson on the TV show, "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip."

This character is based on Kristen Chenoweth...no, really!  And Harriet's real life life-partner is Cherry Jones.

...And Cherry Jones happened to be right in front of me at the ticket counter at JFK when I flew out Saturday morning.  -I actually used to run into her on a semi-regular basis since she used to live next to a friend of mine in the West Village.  Such a great lady.

I just received in the post a ginormous check from the IRS. I'm sure there's an error, so I'm doing nothing with it till I'm certain I can keep it.

I called my accountant about the tax dilemma and he isn't back until May 8! Oy.

Hmm... Are you sure it's not part of your Economic Stimulus Package?

Personally, I'd go ahead and deposit into some sort of interest bearing account.  This way you could at least earn a few dollars on it in the meantime if it does turn out to be a mistake.

The rather cryptic note implies it's my IRS refund, so I'm puzzled since I shouldn't be getting one!

Well, I'm going to write for a little bit and then head downstiars to see if I can finish up the bonus features on THE LOVERS before BONES begins at 8 p.m.

Do you know if you can still call that "When am I getting my refund?" number to track the check you just received?  And if it turns out that you were due a refund, does the turn around time seem reasonable? too slow? too fast?

For the "single" taxpayer, the max "economic stimulus" return would be, I think, $600.

If your check is for much more than that, it's undoubtedly a "refund" check however it came to pass!*

*  An exception to this would be if you filed a claim as single head of household with qualifying children.  That is, if you claimed MBarnum as a dependent in your household, your check might be a bit more.     ;D
