As for the Tony Nominations...

Interesting. Very interesting. There were no real surprises for me among the nominees - although, I do wish that Norbert Leo Butz had received more recognition for his totally over-the-top-but-still-pulled-it-off performance in Is He Dead? during the current "awards season".

Oh... And I would have thought that either Little Mermaid or Young Frankenstein would have garnered that fourth slot in the Best New Musical category instead of Cry Baby.

I think the Best Acting categories are fraught with possible upsets.  -Although, I'm pretty sure that Danny Burstein has it in the bag for his Billis in South Pacific.

And it's also very interesting that three of the four Best Direction of Musical nominees directed revivals.

...Alas, looking at the nominees - and the possible nominees - it just reflects the generally "weak" season.  Yes, there were quite a few highlights of the past season, but there were also quite a few lowlights.  And, frankly, I think the Best Revival of a Musical and Best Orchestrations categories should have only had three nominees.

Claims of ID fraud lead to largest raid in state history

Postville, Ia. - The largest workplace raid in Iowa history Monday resulted in the arrest of more than 300 people and reignited the debate over immigration.

As two law enforcement helicopters hovered overhead, dozens of federal agents descended on Agriprocessors Inc., the nation's largest kosher slaughterhouse.

The 300 people arrested represent almost one-third of the plant's 968 workers, and federal officials said the number of arrests could increase. The number is three times as many as were arrested in a raid 18 months ago at the Swift plant in Marshalltown.

Months in planning, Monday's raid involved 16 local, state and federal agencies, led by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). They executed search warrants related to criminal activity, as well as a civil search warrant for people believed to be in the United States illegally.

"This is the largest operation of its type ever in Iowa," said Matt M. Dummermuth, U.S. attorney for the Northern District.

As for last night's "Chelsea Lately"... I don't think that I even spied the back of my head or even Cason's.  Ah, well.  It was still fun going to the taping.

I will certainly be rooting for Mr. Wopat!

The nominations make me miss NYC...perhaps a 2009 visit will be in the works...I must save my money.

While I look forward to friends and a visit to Miami U, I still have to deal with the Macbeths, and I expect the ugliest confrontation EVER!

DR Elmore - should I make up the guest room  ;)?

Very interesting nominations.  Especially Cry Baby, which was quite poorly reviewed and isn't doing well.  It was almost like its inclusion was a deliberate slap in the face to Mel, and Catered Affair and Disney.

Yes. I just wish Randy and Jo didn't live 80 feet from the Macbeths.

After Ohio, I think you should fly west, pitch a tent in Barnum's backyard, and take it easy for a while.

DR Miss Karen and DR FJL's new book:

I got a free copy of that book at the Public Library Association conference in Minneapolis in March!  Do you suppose DRs Miss Karen and FJL would autograph it for me?

North Carolina Community Colleges Will No Longer Admit Illegal ImmigrantsTuesday , May 13, 2008

RALEIGH, N.C. —

North Carolina's community colleges will no longer admit illegal immigrants, returning to more restrictive policy on the advice of the state Attorney General's Office.

Last year, the system said it would enroll illegal immigrants who are 18 years old and high school graduates at all of its 58 campuses. The policy provoked heavy criticism, especially from the leading candidates for governor.

The system later asked North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper for guidance on whether the admissions policy was legal under federal law. Last week, Cooper's office suggested the system drop the admissions policy.

On Tuesday, the community colleges said it would follow the advice from Cooper's office.

Well, what a treat for the criminal gangs - a whole bunch of high school graduate recruits!

C'mon folks, either integrate them or deport them - parking them on the street corner will just not work!

Good Morning, Good Afternoon! once again.

I've been puttering around here for the past hour or so.  I've "re-organized" my luggage already so that it should take me all but five minutes to get ready to head out the door tomorrow morning.  Thankfully, my friend, Chris, will be driving me to Long Beach, but I also would not have minded taking the Metro back down there - it was kind of "fun" riding through the 'hood.  ;)

Like I said, singdaw, I hate having my photos on the internet.

The camera (along with the food I eat) adds 50 pounds.  And red is not flattering.

I'm still not exactly sure what I want to do today.  I'm suspecting it will be very low key.  Maybe I'll hop on the bus out to Westwood to check out Stan's?  Or I could head back downtown to give the coleslaw at The Pantry another try?  And there was also talk of BBQ with bk this evening.  We shall see.

In the meantime, I still do need to get some breakfast/brunch, and I also want to replenish my friend's bottled water supply.

It really has flown by - especially the past couple of days.  However, it's better that it flew by rather than trudged along.
