I have taken major heat for years for liking STAR TREK V. You're entirely right; it's not the best of the TREK movies, but I found it a lot more entertaining that the wobbly dinosaur that was the first film in the series.

Well, I actually like the first movie quite a bit.

I've always felt that Star Trek V is the only feature film to really use the Kirk/Spock/McCoy relationship to drive the plot.  For that, it scores points...and reprises one of the best things about the TV series. Sybok, played by Lawrence Luckinbill, is the most interesting villian in any of the feature films.  And it has a terrific score by Jerry Goldsmith.

I feel the nadir of the features to be Star Trek Generations.  Horrible, horrible film.

Larry, put the first set of letters and symbols within the brackets - [move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%] - in FRONT of the smilies and the last part - [/move] - AFTER the smilies - and it should work.

Really enjoyed the SWEENEY DVD. I wish there had been a commentary or something to go along with it, but I'm not complaining. The quality is as good as videotape can look done that way.

Wonder why Merle Louise's vocals almost all had to be looped? I know on SUNDAY, Bernadette Peters' rerecorded her vocals because she was hoarse when the show was taped (she was doing SONG & DANCE then on Broadway, so I guess that's why her voice was in rocky shape.) Wonder if Merle was having vocal problems during the taping?

I agree.  It's harder to get into than Cloud Nine.
Now, wait a sec here.  Der Brucer and I had absolutely no trouble getting into Cloud Nine when we went there for dinner.

234 Rehoboth Ave.  And here is a link to their website.

Okay, while watching STAR! tonight, I got to thinking:
Once upon a time, in Korea, in the early 1950s, my uncle, the colonel was Marilyn Monroe's assigned escort on her USO tour.  From that tour, I have two still-to-be-published photographs:  one is of my uncle at dinner with MM, the other MM performing for the troops.
As a present to my mother and to her brother the colonel (who at the time was suffering from Alzheimer's and in a nursing home in South Carolina) I went to a photographic reproductions business - one that I knew well from their contact sheets, head shots and such - and had both original 3 x 5 photographs blown up to 8 x 10s.
Well, when the photographs were reproduced in that format - from a new negative created from the 3 x 5s, the larger formatted prints had a strong sepia tone NOT visible on the original 3 x 5s! !  !
So, now seeing STAR! with this subtle sepia wash - - and, I'm not talking about the newsreels - they were sepia tinted when I saw a 70mm print at a rep house following the 25th anniversary - - I'm talking the whole movie looks like my photographs of Marilyn. To me, it seems that it was always there, just not as noticeable as it is in the digital domain.
And, FOX has a lot of answering to do about this title!
WHY was the release pushed back from August '03?
WAS Robert Wise in charge of this transfer?
WHERE is the INTERMISSION card, Entr'Acte and Exit Music?
WHY does this print of STAR! show much more print damage (scratches, nicks and holes) than the print used for the laserdisc?
Too many questions, too little time.

Well - I just ordered STAR! from Amazon.com AND I preordered I COULD GO ON SINGING (out in May) at DVDPLANET for only 9.12!

AND Amazon.com says that the Dirk Bogarde A TALE OF TWO CITIES will be out on DVD in June!  Of course it doesn't seem to be the DeLuxe Region Two DVD but at least it is Dirk as Sidney Carton!

I kind of like the ROnald Colman A TALE OF TWO CITIES. I'm not sure I've ever seen the Bogarde version though I knew it existed.

Someone tell me how to do the damned dance!

It's just a jump to the left. . .
and then a step to the right. . .
with your hands on your hips. . .
you bring your knees in tight -
BUT, it's the pelvic thrust
that really drives you insane!
Let's do the time warp again!

Der Brucer and I have had a wonderful first evening at the First Annual Rehoboth Beach Food and Wine Festival, specializing in the wine tastings.

Need I say more?

But I will, fear not!

First we went to a place called Dish! which does retro.  Strangely, they associate retro with the 80s, but no matter.  They were hosting a tasting by the Rainbow Ridge Winery, a smallish operation from California which has received good scores from Wine Spectator.  We sampled their Alicante Bouschet, which is a very bold and fruity red which is nicely smooth, and made from a grape that is a recent hybred.  This was followed by their Chardonnay, which was light and pear-flavored, and not oakey at all.  It was very refreshing.

From there we wandered over to The Cultured Pearl, a chic Japanese restaurant that has a carp-filled stream running through it (but no sign of Brad Pitt or Anthony Hopkins).  They were featuring the wines from Zenaida Cellars.  Der Brucer found their Pinot Noir watery; I thought their Merlot tasted like the scorched earth after a forest fire.  Bleh.

A flight of six tastings from Robert Mondavi was offered at Blue Moon, one of Rehoboth's best restaurants (and with the competition in town these days, that's saying a lot).  We liked their Fume Blanc Reserve and the Moscato d'Oro (a sweet and intense dessert wine), but the rest was, well, expectable.  Fortunately, the Blue Moon also had a respectable cheese board set out, nice and tasty.

Tomorrow is the Dog Walk on the Boardwalk, and another round with the tastings.  This is fun!  And we get to keep our glasses!

MATTH - give the Bogarde version a look when it comes out....it's worth a rental at least if you're a fan of the story or Dirk.  I wish it had been made in color...but....  And of course Edna Mae Oliver is a great Pross!

I wuz just about to ask that very question.  Now I don't have to ask that very question.  We need action, fun, hachacha.  We need romping and cavorting by late-night denizens.  We need young girls for Jed so he can be nefarious.
