Dear brother, will you bring my picture along so I may feel part of the festivities?

I am happy to do so, but may I suggest you at last come out from behind the curtains and post your sparkling countenance as an avatar here at HHW.com?

And even Cher loved the Pittsford Wegman's during her tour stop here!  She wished for one in Santa Monica!

Even my dear brother loved the Pittsford Wegman's on his visit here!  He wished for one in Pasadena!  Is that not true, dear brother Jay?

Ahhh, Rochester.  Home of the world's largest collection of photography, a world class symphony orchestra, a historically significant Victorian cemetery (Susan B. Anthony's in there), a waterfall in the middle of downtown and numerous historic sites related to the Erie Canal and where do out of town visitors go?  Wegman's!  A supermarket like no other.

DR Stuart,

Yes, heinous.

Jan Wong used to write a "lunch with ... " column. But she reduced so many of her celebrity guests to tears (after they read the column), that word got out and the paper had to give her a new gig. I think she once was so desperate for a lunch date, she interviewed a kid named Osama and asked how he felt having such a name.

I don't know from Wegman's yet.  Could someone post a link for the clueless?

Der Brucer has gone bird crazy!

He's been watching a bird feeder he has attached to a pine tree outside his window, and is totally fascinated by the cardinals and other birds that it is attracting.  Them and this big squirrel, who wants his share and anyone else's.

So we were off to WalMart, obstensibly to get more soft food for Kelsey (who is doing sorta all right, but still can't walk).  The real reason for the trip was so that der B could check all the different feeders they havd on sale.  Unable to decide on one, he got three.

At least his passion is of the "I'm appreciating the beauty of nature" variety, and not more practical.  I wouldn't know how to cook a cardinal, even if I wanted to.

It's not a market.  It's a religion.  And I see they are now in the D.C. area.

Back from lunch and greeted with some sad news: Fred Karlin, the marvelous film composer, and a friend, died at the end of March - the family just now released the information for reasons no one seems to understand.  Mr. Karlin wrote the wonderful scores to Up the Down Staircase, The Sterile Cuckoo (and its song, Come Saturday Morning) and Lovers and Other Strangers (and its song For All We Know), as well as many others.  He was one of the sweetest people ever - gentle, good-natured and down-to-earth.  We did two albums together (originally called Jazz Goes to Hollywood, the Sixties, and Jazz Goes to Hollywood, the Seventies - retitled by Varese, Cool and Classic, the 60s and 70s).  They were jazz covers of film themes by folks who knew and loved jazz.  Wonderful albums, and Mr. Karlin and I had great fun putting them together and then working in the studio.

Sorry to read that. I always loved the score (and the film) to UP THE DOWN STAIRCASE.

Last post close to one hour ago?  I must be in some alternate universe because that would be too unseemly for haineshisway.com.

Got the Man of La Mancha DVD.  We shall see.

Squirrels have been our nemesis.  More specifically, they've been Bruiser's nemesis...as seen here.

Great scenery, DR Robin. And the river and river bank are rather nice, too.

If money were no object, first, I would choose to spend a very long time in New York City seeing shows and meeting (well, trying to meet) famous Broadway acting type persons.  Next, I'd visit my dad's family all over the U.S.  I’d learn to speak other languages (especially German) and travel the world.  I’d visit all my mom’s family (and pay for my family to accompany me!) in Germany and really get to know that side of the family and culture.  I don't know if I'd stay in any one place for too long.  It'd be nice to be able to travel on a whim whenever I want to.  So, does anyone know how much a whim costs?  Can I own one myself or do can I only buy tickets for one? ;)

For Survivor fans, only two shows left!

Also, they are running a promo that says that there is a shocking surprise in the finale.  Not sure what that could be.  But in the picture we only see Rupert, Jenna and Rob. And they all go, "what?!"

Not sure why they would say the surprise is in the finale, and then show 3 of the people (they are probably just trying to mislead us).

Also, in the CBS Survivor email, they say that Rupert and Jenna are shocked after they have a private strategy session. They turn around and Rob is standing right behind them. Oops. :)

Thank you Jay.  And do take a photo of Stuart with you.

Charles Pogue, knowing how hard you have been working, I didn’t think you saw my Du-Par’s posts.  I hope you can make it for breakfast by Monday.  So, GOOD VIBES getting that relatively final draft done.

bk - Sorry to hear about your friend and that you didn't get a chance to say a proper good-bye.

Jane - I'm minutes from Du-Par's and have nothing on Monday morning, so any time is fine. 10 is good.

As for the Question of the Day - Nice to contemplate... I'd buy a lovely house in Studio City - with a guest house. I really like it here - feel quite at home. I'd get a chauffeur so I wouldn't have to drive (and be criticized for my driving).
A small pied-a-terre in NY would be good. I know the exact building - stayed there once in the apartment of a musician friend - on the same floor as the Zagats. Gargoyles outside the windows. Not the Dakota, but near it. Shouldn't cost more than a few million for a little apt.
Another pied-a-terre in Toronto would be just fine. Have so many friends there.

I'd also buy a small theater in Studio City where friends could do shows - maybe I would even act again.

I would keep writing - but the pressure would be off. Sigh...

DR Robin: I copied your photo into Adobe Photo Workshop and tweaked the contrast/brightness.

You can copy it from here, if you so desire, and repost it with your personal ID info.

[I can’t believe I’m being asked how to do the animated stuff.  I really don’t know much about computers, which is why Jennifer appreciated by “stupid people” directions.

For some reason I can’t do it consistently so my method might get corrected, but here is what I did for jump rope guy:

I just went to http://www.click-smilies.com
Clicked on one I liked
Went down to the display bar
Copied and pasted in the reply box
Highlighted what shows up in the display box.  This wasn’t done easily, as first it turns green, but can’t be copied.  Then I do it again & copy it.
Now highlight this and click on the image box (the one to the left of “insert email”
