It's always time for a DVD.  I'm watching Ice Station Zebra.

Page six, how did that happen?  Who knew with one short post it would be a new page?

How the Hell is old John Mitchell?  I haven't been to Mitchell's in probably over a year.  Is the newer mystery bookshop still connected to his.  Old John can talk your ear off...He never does the book fairs anymore...

I'm mystified how ICE STATION ZEBRA got voted as one of the TCM flicks to be released.  Wasn't this thing a flop when it first came out.  I have never had any desire to see it.  I hate movies about confined, isolated spaces...Submarines, space ships, tunnels, mines, the arctic...Always so boring to me (with exception...and there are always exceptions...of HOW GREEN WAS MY VALLEY...which is really about the mines so much as it is about the mining community.  We mercifully spend little time inside the mine.

Yes, Ice Station Zebra was a big floperoo on its release, although I'm sure someone will say otherwise.  I like Rock and I like McGoohan, and I like Sturges, and I like Legrand, so I'm enjoying it so far, but I'm only twenty-five minutes in.

John Mitchell has put on a bit of weight but otherwise looks the same.  The mystery store next door is gone - she retired.  John has moved all the paperback stuff there.

How can anyone feel better whilst eating COUSCOUS?  That stuff just gives me the creeps.

I, for one, am still doing the Bunny Hop from room to room.  It's quite fun and I recommend it to everyone.

I've just come back from having my hair trimmed and highlighted by a wonderful hairdresset I met at bk's Christmas do. I do believe the results are quite good. Unfortunately, DD has left for San Francisco for the weekend to move her stuff into her new place (she'll be back for her birthday) and cannot take my picture with my new (not exactly new, but slightly different) look.
I also had the car washed.
Isn't that exciting?

Now I must decide whether I want to go to a screening of THE MOTORCYCLE DIARIES tomorrow. There was a message waiting for me with an invitation from a Hungarian friend (not in Hungary). But the screening is over the hill, and I could see it in the Valley (I think...) and do far less traveling. Also, it's during the day and I should really be working. I will have to think over this huge problem while I walk the Wonderdog.

I never liked couscous either until DS Betsy fixed it in a yummy casserole with spinach and pine nuts.  In that medley, it's become a favorite.

Much the same, I could never stomach asparagus until Betsy fixed it fresh for me after we got married.  My mother had always made the canned variety and had cooked it until it was a fine mushy glop.

I do not like COUSCOUS as a solo or a medley.

I hated aspargus when I was a wee sprig of a twig of a tad of a lad of a youth.  But I know love aspargus, as long as they are fresh and drenched in either butter, hollandaise, or some sort of gloppy salad dressing, i.e. Thousand Island.

I just finished watching "The Village".  Happily, I was unfamiliar with whatever "TZ" episode others thought tipped off the twist ending (which was revealed a bit earlier than I'd have thought it might have been).

I like the filmmaker, but this story was a bit drawn out, even if I didn't "guess" at what was up.  There were lots of red herrings, including the flags...the "safe" color (which I thought was based on the malaria flags ships used to fly) being one of them.

An enjoyable couple of hours, though.

Ice Skating:  I have to say I've never been overly fond of, or impressed with, Timothy Goebel.   Today, his marks were way too high for what little he did on the ice.  Those marks, contrasted with the much-too-low marks given to Matt Savoie, perpetuates the problems with the 6.0 scoring system, rewarding not what the skater does in a given performance as much as what the judges consider him capable of doing.

Goebel also irked me greatly over his turning the death of a friend's mother into something more about himself.  He milked his grief for sympathy on ice and it was nauseating to me.  I saw him in an interview a month or so ago after he withdrew from a competiton for reasons I believed to be because he had skated too poorly to medal, and he was as vapid in conversation as he appears to be with his perpetually glazed-over look.

He's an "ice princess" and nothing more.

Johnny Weir very much deserved his victory.

Thirty minutes to dinner party.  Although, I'm sure we won't eat till seven or seven-thirty.  But there are always yummilcious nutmeats and things to occupy my stomach until the real stuff arrives.

Because I'm SO hungry, time is purposely moving very slowly.  If I WASN'T hungry it would already ten o'clock and I would have eaten.  But because I AM hungry time is playing this little "I'm just going to creep along" game.  Damn them, damn them all to hell.

And just where is Sandra and the person known as her mother?

And really, where is Noel, who seems to have fallen off the face of the earth.

Couscous is semolina, and semolina gives you the creeps???

Prepared well, and simply, it can be very tasty!

The Jets' kicker sucks.

Don't fall into that pit of blaming the kicker.  If the team has played better, it would not have been left to the kicker to win the game.

The truth is, the Jets suck.

The rainboots are not samples. One has to purchase them.

Ooh!  Ooh!

Am I the only skating fan who thinks that Evan Lysacek looks like "Chachi"?

I thought he was too generously scored, as well.  His choreography left me gaping incredulously as he'd be with the music, and then ignore the music, then be with another bit of music, and then ignore a huge chunk of music.  He was "musical" when it suited him rather than throughout the routine.

I guess the judges wanted to encourage a new face.  Savoie was much, much better than Lysacek or Goebel.
