DR Vixmom, I'm glad you liked the recipe I posted.  The ingredients are simple (who would think soda crackers would be used in a dessert). But the result is delicious.

I have tried something similar without chocolate.  The one my aunt makes every Christmas uses graham crackers and the same brown sugar and butter spread over it.

But there is no chocolate (i forget what is spread on instead). And this has always been one of my favorite cookie treats. Yummy.

I am going to spend my weekend locked in my room writing a paper for the dreaded Dr. C. Eight pages on the theme of identity and how it relates to postcoloniality. I know you're all jealous.

And I get to reschedule my appointment with said dreaded Dr. C. for some time next week, which means I get to go through this whole thing all over again.

Now would somebody please tell me to do my homework?

Might I just ask where in tarnation IS everyone?  I've eaten a potpourri of Gelson's oddities - a little chicken with almonds, a little lobster salad, a little sushi (avacado roll), and a mini-bagel with cream cheese.  I am now ready to vomit on the floor.  I will need a sweet to remove the disgusting melange of tastes currently roaming around in my maw.

My goodness, that was florid, wasn't it?

Good Evening!

Ah, nothing like spending a few hours in the Village to get one's mind off of other things.  I hung out with my buddy, Stuart, and his part-time dog, Chiclet.  *Part-time since he still shares her with his ex.  A very amicable arrangement, and a very sweet dog.  A white Jack Russell Terrier.  16 years old!  She is winding down, but she seems to be going out with style and grace.

The weather was a bit strange today.  Some intermittent showers and very spotty too.  We'd walk one block and the streets were absolutely dry, and then we'd cross the street and there would be water running down the gutters.  Very strange.  But sort of cool at the same time.

OH!

DR MBarnum - I believe I found a good Korean place to take you to when you come to town.  Good food, and in a great neighborhood too.  Scenery of all sorts.  :)

I wonder if dear reader Jose has a couple of hours to do a leetle job for me, which he can do from his home environment.

Well, you have my e-mail, so...  I'll see what I can do.

It happened again.  I simultaneously googled "Hold Mommy's waffles" and chicken, and posts from this here site came up, well, at least one post anyway, from 2003.  That's two times this week that I googled and HHW came up in the results.

I've been wanting to try chicken and waffles all week.  I'm not even sure what chicken and waffles is, but I still want to try it.

It is what it is.  Fried Chicken.  Waffles.  The waffles become the starch - a replacement for biscuits, corn sticks, yeast rolls, mashed taters, etc.

As for the syrup, that's your choice.  You can have it just on the waffles, or you can also put some on the fried chicken.  *Some people serve their Chicken and Waffles with gravy - like the recipe that DR vixmom posted - but with syrup is the real deal.

Some places will dip their fried chicken in some sort of syrup-glaze -usually some sort of spicy-seasoned-honey mixture.  This method works best when the crust of the chicken is slap-yo-mama good.  And with the syrup it becomes slap-yo-mama and yo-gramma good!  Consequently, when served this way, the honey dip serves as the syrup for the waffles.

:)

HHW is Google's nightmare.

RE:DESTINATION MURDER - maybe the location shots were done for another film or by the second unit (although why such a B would have a second unit is beyond me).  Since it was his own production company maybe he did do some test filming first.  Who knows?  But didn't you think everyone talked VERY SLOW?

Why weren't these extras included in the previous SOUND OF MUSIC extra-special be-all and end-all never-have-to-buy-another DVD that came out a couple of years ago?  HUH?  Did they find them in a drawer under Saul Chaplin's socks?

BK - Taking a cue from the toiletries topic the other day, I recommend original Listerine for what's ailing you right now.  Don't try the citrus Listerine, it'll just mix with those other tastes and make it worse.

DR Jason - The soul food place getting all the notoriety lately is Amy Ruth's.  It's up on 116th in Harlem.

Amy Ruth's

And, as you can see from above, it's only been around since 1998.

Sylvia's is on Lenox, and has been around since 1962

Sylvia's

However, I'd have to say my favorite soul food places are part of the Spoonbread "chain".

There's Miss Maude's Spoonbread Too on Lenox Ave.

And there's also the original Miss Mamie's Spoonbread Too on 110th by Columbia University.  Just a short walk from the 1 train.  :)

Danise posted earlier so she must be doing fine and has scared away Rita!

Florid the Red Menace
Florid Dora

Sorry, I've been doing taxes all day.  My sense of humor is warped.

Excellent news.  Now if we can just get Matt H's magical weather forecasters to push back the hurricane completely we'll be all set.
