TOD:  How could I have forgotten the great play TARTUFFE or Voltaire's CANDIDE, not to mention Bernstein's "comic operetta?"  I also forgot CATCH-22 and the wonderful Tom Lehrer.  Too much sex and drugs, I guess.  Where are they when I could use them now?

How would you like to be the guy at the post office behind the guy with the box of books with confirmation receipts?

I am happy to announce that all packages are shipped and on their way via priority mail with delivery confirmation tags attached.  Whew!  I knew it would be horrid at the post office (I've lucked out the last few times, but that's been in the afternoon and not after a holiday), and the line was out the door, but the wait was only ten minutes or so, so that wasn't too too bad.

Huzzah!!!

This is for Danise... and bird lovers everywhere

Spring is here, a-suh-puh-ring is here.
Life is skittles and life is beer.
I think the loveliest time of the year is the spring.
I do, don't you?  'Course you do.
But there's one thing that makes spring complete for me,
And makes every Sunday a treat for me.

All the world seems in tune
On a spring afternoon,
When we're poisoning pigeons in the park.
Every Sunday you'll see
My sweetheart and me,
As we poison the pigeons in the park.

When they see us coming, the birdies all try an' hide,
But they still go for peanuts when coated with cyanide.
The sun's shining bright,
Everything seems all right,
When we're poisoning pigeons in the park.

We've gained notoriety,
And caused much anxiety
In the Audubon Society
With our games.
They call it impiety
And lack of propriety,
And quite a variety
Of unpleasant names.
But it's not against any religion
To want to dispose of a pigeon.

So if Sunday you're free,
Why don't you come with me,
And we'll poison the pigeons in the park.
And maybe we'll do
In a squirrel or two,
While we're poisoning pigeons in the park.

We'll murder them all amid laughter and merriment,
Except for the few we take home to experiment.
My pulse will be quickenin'
With each drop of strych'nine
We feed to a pigeon.
(It just takes a smidgin!)
To poison a pigeon in the park.

Topic of the Day...

MAD Magazine
The Onion
The Daily Show with Jon Stewart
Tom Lehrer - Although, my favorite songs of his were the ones written for "The Electric Company" - "Silent e" and "L-Y".
Allan Sherman - Does "Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh" etc., count?

The PBS station in Richmond would play "Around the Horn" during their late night Sunday blocks.  It was always a nice way to end the day.

and now... a tender love song

I hold your hand in mine, dear,
I press it to my lips.
I take a healthy bite
From your dainty fingertips.

My joy would be complete, dear,
If you were only here,
But still I keep your hand
As a precious souvenir.

The night you died I cut it off,
I really don't know why.
For now each time I kiss it
I get bloodstains on my tie.

I'm sorry now I killed you,
For our love was something fine,
And till they come to get me
I shall hold your hand in mine.

BK - As another DR mentioned yesterday, you can get Priority Mail Confirmation for any item of mail you send Priority Mail.  There is no thickness requirement or limit.

*And as I quickly learned, you do not need to fill out the whole slip since you get the part of the slip that you filled out.  As long as I have the complete address in another place, I just put the person's name on it before handing it over to the postal clerk to get date stamped.

**And, yes, you can do that all online too.  But you will still have to take the packages to the post office to get them scanned, although in some areas, they can also just be picked up with your daily outgoing mail from your home.  No waiting in line at the post office.

Oh, that's right... I'll be heading into midtown shortly, and was just wondering if you wanted to grab dinner somewhere...  I've been craving and Island Burger... or maybe something from Empanada Mama.

And since the word of the day is NATTY:

How could we forget Bob and Ray's radio show (to which I listened religiously in high school) with their frequent guest Natalie Attired?

Adding to TWTWTW (aka TW3), leave us not forget that Tom Lehrer wrote songs for it and compiled them on his album That Was the Year that Was.

Hang by your thumbs.

It wasn't too bad being behind me in the post office because everything of mine was completely prepared and it went very fast - about ten minutes for over thirty packages.  What I hate are the people who haven't filled out or boxed anything, who just go to the window completely unprepared.

I haven't tried to do this stuff online yet - I have to peruse it and take my time figuring it all out.

Jose: Sorry I won't be able to do dinner. And I may have bad news about this weekend...he called and said he got impatient and got a couple of people already, so I have to find out what's available and what's not. Friday's still a go. I'll need to talk to you about Saturday, though. Check your HHW Inbox.

"Bated Breath"

Breathing that is subdued because of some emotion or difficulty that is being experienced.

from the root, ABATE, meaning to bring down, lower or depress.

DR Jason... The Vixter has been enjoying B & B so much she hasn't even started listening to the others.

I had to go to Amazon and order the songbook for the musical because she wants to do "Home " with her singing teacher

You've made her so happy. Thank you again

Been there, done that.   ;D

It was I who mentioned delivery confirmation yesterday, Jose, and in fact you don't even need to send stuff Priority to get it (though as I also mentioned yesterday, for some peculiar reason they charge you more for delivery confirmation for lesser class mail than for Priority).

Pray for Rosemary's Baby (or house, as it were) Department:  I have put up For Sale signs today in front of our house, just to see what happens.  We're hoping this either shakes Developer #1 out of his coma or lures another pocket developer in.  The good news is, we don't really have to move (though if Betsy's parents move out here, we probably should), so we have nothing to lose.  This will be an interesting little experiment in any case.
