From MBarnum:

DR Jane, when the Cost Plus Import store opens here in a few months the first thing I am gonna do is go there and buy some Marzipan! They carry a wonderful selection of the stuff!

Is there one in Portland and who makes their marzipan?

And the roads here are fine now.

Good, and I hope it lasts until we return from our Christmas/Chanukah/birthday visit with Bryan.

DR JANE - I think Doris has a Christmas CD around....there are several on EBAY...and she would sound great coming out of that BIG jukebox!  Doris' arrangers were always top notch!!

Maybe she meant sand AND sugar!

Sometimes it is because there was a little bit of water or something on your beater ...

Did you add a 1/4 teaspoon of cream of tartar?

Were the eggs at room temperature before you began?  And don't use a cold bowl.

Chocolate Chip Meringue Cookies

2 egg whites
1 tsp vanilla
Dash slat
½ cup sugar
1-6 oz package semisweet chocolate piece
(possibly better-Ghirardelli 60% cocoa bittersweet chocolate)

Optional ½ cup chopped pecans (I never use)

Combine egg whites, vanilla and salt.  Beat until whites are stiff, but not dry.

Gradually add sugar, beating until whites are stiff and satiny.

Fold in chocolate pieces and pecans

Drop by the teaspoonful onto a greased cookie sheet

Bake at 300 degrees for 30 minutes

There is probably as store in Portland. I dont' know who makes the marzipan that they carry, but I believe it is imported from Europe.

It is sold out for this year but I can purchase the CD at the Doris Day Animal Foundation’s store….. http://ddaf.org/store

Now that we have the jukebox, thanks for reminding me, I should pick up a couple more of her CD's.  I only have one album of hers, which doesn't do me much good now that I don't have a record player.  I did hint to Bryan I need one, not that he has had any free time to shop.

There is one in Portland, downtown. Click here for the address: http://www.worldmarket.com/custserv/store_details.jsp

Cost Plus World Market is what it is called I guess.

Getting it through Doris' foundation is a GREAT idea, DRJANE!!  I think she'll autograph for you, too, for a bit extra for the doggies.

Well gang, things move quickly in my world. Saturday I decided to start looking for a house and today I made an offer on one.  So I'd appreciate any good vibes you can send.  Of course, if it works out it will seriously curtail my travel plans over the next 6 months or more,  which is not a happy thing, but to be in this house? I'll gladly stay home

Watched four sparkling episodes of MURDER SHE WROTE. Included among these was my favorite ofthe entire series, a take on TWELVE ANGRY MEN where Jessica is the jury foreperson looking into the death of an enraged husband killed by a man who said he was defending himself. Oh, the case turns out to be much more complicated than that!

Among the famous faces on trial and in the jury box were Jon Cypher, Tony Bill, Virginia Capers, Vickie Lawrence, Arlene Golanka, Gary Frank, Brock Peters, Tom Ewell.

The bittersweet ending has always seemed absolutely perfect to me.

Good house vibes.....we must have photos as soon as possible, DR CILLALIZ.

Is it the house you were talking about the other day?

Hmm not sure, there was a really cool sounding house from 1918 that my friends were all excited about. I looked at it, but I'm not going to deal with an asbestos wrapped boiler, putting in all new wiring, new duct work, replastering, etc....I'm just not fixer upper girl and I don't want a money pit

This one is pretty cool. It's brick with a slate roof and even has a turret - It was built in 1934.  I'll send a photo when the offer is accepted - I'm going to stay optimistic here.
