RE: the transit strike, I would bet that a majority of the union members would like to simply go back to work. I dont' imagine that they are getting any pay during this strike and being that it is right before Christmas...well, that could be sort of rough for many of those workers.

From my experiences with the union that represents state workers here, I know they play dirty...and I honestly think it is more about the leaders then the workers, sometimes....big egos. The agency that I work for is not unionized and the union tried to get in last year...their tactics really disgusted me and made me not want to have any part of them...they lied and would use quotes in their flyers and ads from some of our ex-employees...of course these were all ex-employees who had long histories of being disciplined and or were just plain kookie! Of course the union didin't mention this. The union would also twist the facts like you would not believe and of course no one would know (except for us in personnel) that what they were printing were out and out lies and deceptions. It was sickening. Thankfully our employees voted against having a union...which is good because our employees actually have better pay and better benefits then the state agencies that are represented by the union! And if the union had taken over then our pay would have gone down on top of having to pay dues....of course the union didn't mention this either! LOL!

I have nothing against unions...I think they are a necessity...but sometimes they aren't really doing what is best for the employee.

Lesbians like Old Spice, don't they? Or is that Grey Flannel...? :-X
Jason, Old Spice is an aftershave.  Just what are they supposed to be shaving?

Well that explains it, then--I wear Old Spice, and it's obviously because I'm a lesbian.

It's been interesting at work, to say the least.  Everyone out there is busily shopping for their Holiday Feasting.  Some of them are jolly, some of them are not.

I tried something different today.  Instead of wishing people a pleasant holiday when they were ready to leave, I wished many of them a pleasant Christmas.  They always turned back to me at this, and smiled.  Even when they hadn't been the jolly sort (well, except for a very few who I think lacked the smile gene).

Jane, I think that was me with the UPS runaround due to the horrible state of emergency that FedEx somehow managed to handle easily.

And yes, the package was delivered today.  :)

Before commenting I checked the rest of your posts. ;D

I'm glad you received your package.

I'm watching Audra McDonald sing Christmas music with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.  Simply lovely.  I wish I had recorded it.

We have water in the kitchen and a wonderful luxury known as a garbage disposal.

While far from finished we now have a functioning kitchen again. :)

I couldn't get on this morning. The site was down. And This is the first free time I have had to really sit down at the computer. I quickly read the postings earlier, but did not have time to sit down and write.

I have been sort of silent this last week or so which is unusual for me. I guess it is the time of year for me. I have SAD and now that today being the shortest light day of the year I hope that I can  start feeling better.

DR Jane: I won't be walking anywhere tomorrow as I'm flying home for the holidays tomorrow afternoon. A little HHW angel has offered to pick me up and drive me to a train station in Queens so I can catch the Long Island Railroad to the airport in Islip. :)

Lovely dinner party tonight and marvelous gift exchange. I came away with some treasures I had resisted buying for myself: MR. SKEFFINGTON, ANNA & THE KING OF SIAM, DR. ZHIVAGO, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTACY to name a few. I am very blessed to have such generous and thoughtful friends.

The walking on water part is so very appropriate for this time of year, don't you think?   ;D

While dinner was being finished up, we gathered in the kitchen to watch DEAL OR NO DEAL on NBC. Has anyone else been watching this?

Simple game show featuring a kind of gambling odds that ups the old LET'S MAKE A DEAL scenario to make it all about cash. I can see why its ratings have been growing each of the nights it's been on. Very addictive.
