BEWITCHED, BOTHERED, AND BEWILDERED
« on: January 17, 2006, 12:04:37 AM »

Well, you've read the notes, the notes have bewitched you, bothered you, and bewildered you, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're neither bewitched nor bothered, but they certainly are bewildered.

Hmmmm

To 10 DVD's??? Tough decision  ;D (will pick out of my favorite Genres!!)

The Commitments
The Snapper
Fargo
Bridget Jones' Diary
Grease
Mrs. Doubtfire - (Gotta love Robin Williams--The man is a hoot)

Which Romeo and Juliet?  If it's the Zefferelli version, it's out on a Paramount DVD.  Double Indemnity is out in region 2 in a very nice DVD, so I'm sure Universal will be putting it out here soon.  Of course, Double Indemnity was one of the very first DVDs to be released, through Image Entertainment, but that had a horrible transfer and goes for huge money now.

I am glad to here that it will be out again. I have it taped off of AMC but my tape is getting very worn since I have watched it so many times. It is one of my favorite movies. My grandfather was a huge Barbara Stanwyck fan and he introduced me to her work. A professor teaching a film genres class last semester, placed the movie on reserve at the library where I work. Of course I did sneak a peak when my work was done!

Yes, Zeffirelli's version with Olivia Hussey as Juliet. It was beautifully done... It is my favorite version of that movie... I will have to pester again at Blockbuster or Best Buy for it....

My Top 10 DVDs (sets count as one ;)) that I couldn't live without...well, this list will change every day, but for right now, these are what I choose (in alphabetical order):
  • Barbra Streisand:  The Television Specials (mainly, because I haven't watched them yet)
  • Chess - live performance in Swedish (even if it doesn't have any subtitles)
  • Futurama - the entire series
  • Little Shop of Horrors - the original "special edition" that has the original ending that caused David Geffen to pull the release
  • The Lord of the Rings - all three extended versions
  • The Muppet Show - the complete TV series (even though only the first season has been released, so far)
  • Singin' In the Rain
  • Strictly Ballroom
  • Sunday In the Park With George - the original Broadway production
  • What If? (through most kind courtesy of our very own BK!)
And the "Not yet released but will be added to the list as soon as it is" item:  "Brokeback Mountain."

Actually, I LOVE The Muppets.

My friend Misi (she had her name legally changed to that) was the stage manager of the 10th anniversary first national tour of Sunday In the Park With George.  They had a couple of stops here in Washington State and after the show, a bunch of us who went to see it, got to go backstage and see the costumes.  They used the act one original Broadway costumes!  I got to touch Bernadette Peters' hat! ;D

Watching a lot of early Robert Montgomery films on TCM last night and this morning.  Never really watched many of his films before.  He is a good actor - and looks very nice!

Good morning, all!  BK is right:  where the hell has January gone?  Oy!  Slow down, I say.

I've seen no DECEIT reviews yet, but there cerrtainly are a lot of pages piling up on Google.

DR Jose, I'm happy you and DR Jason had a fun night out.  I'll be glad when your show closes and you get your butt to Manhattan.

I was thinking, I've known Ginny's husband Richard for 47 years!  The older he get, the more distinguished he looks, and I'm just the opposite:  the older, the more extinguished.

Hmm, this is a stream-of-unconsciousness post today, and as for the top 10 DVDs, I was prepared to go to TLA and wrute down 10 porn titles, but a lot of stalkers read these things and I would hate to give them the wrong impression.  Shut up, DR MBarnum!

DVD:  Nashville
         Children of Paradise
         The Innocents
         Monsieur Verdoux
         Sleepy Hollow
         Li'l Abner
         The Music Man
         My Fair Lady
         Kind Hearts & Coronets

Interesting Matt Ashford's wife, Christina has done a production Sunday in the park with George.

Around 1987, Christina was in a production of Jerome Kern's SALLY that I worked on.  It was the demise of Bill Tynes' New Amsterdam Theatre Company, done in by the idiot producer who took over when Bill died.  I wanted to have a t-shirt made "I worked on SALLY and got paid!"  I think Christina, who played Sally, and the rest of the cast, of which the only persons I remember are Louisa Flaningam and Alan Sues, got stiffed.
