Earlier today, I dropped off a copy of the short story redo to my muse, Margaret, who read it and just called to say it was now perfect. And while I probably wouldn't go that far, what she's right about is that because of those little fixes the entire story now has a focus and likability and warmth it didn't have before - and a point. We had a similar thing happen in the final chapter of Rewind, where she just wasn't happy with it, and when we finally pinned it down it was a two paragraph rewrite and that rewrite informed the entire feel of the last chapter and, in fact, the book.
