HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE finally arrived today as well, but as it's a long movie (I saw it twice at the theater), I will wait until tomorrow to watch it.

DR Matt H, I love Harvey's music a lot, and adore him as a person.  I'm so flattered to be on his Christmas card and "special" list, which includes things like his "forty fingers of Harvey Schmidt" CD, which Kritzerland released.  Don't you thnk it's a lot of fun?
I didn't word this very well, and I've been pondering this since I posted it.  Harvey sent as a Christmas card a couple of years ago a CD of himself playing his songs.  Harvey plays BIG piano, and it's like he has twenty fingers on each hand.  When Kritzerland released the disc commercially I dfidn't purchase it since I already had it, but I am curious about whether the notes are the same.  I'm assuming that DR Matt and others on the site have purchased it and are enjoying it.  It's a lot of fun.

Well, the phone finally rang.  I'm going to the Met Friday morning to see the dress rehearsal of Beethoven's FIDELIO, an opera I love and one I've never seen on stage.  However, I do wish the phone would ring about some work.

I find it LOADS of fun.  It's very nostalgic, too....

Cillaliz -- I used to say: I have to be in court in an hour. (I was a court reporter.)

Your jail comment is much better.

Were you a court reporter in Phoenix? I was a Maricopa County Public Defender from '86-'92 so I was in Superior Court every day and Justice Court at least once a week.  I also was a law clerk for Judge (now Justice) Martone

I always liked "Many of our attorneys work out of our Long Island office when they're not on trial."

I know what they really mean, but it always struck me as whimsical.

On the East coast is seems that lawyers always say they are "on" trial.  Here and when I was in Phoenix, the defendant was "on" trial, the lawyer was "in" trial.    Of course we stand "in" line and not "on" line as well

Really? Where did you do prelims? I was in the East Valley mostly, Northeast, Tempe and occasionally one of the Mesa courts.

Hello DR Ron.

My day so far has been spent in attempting to clean and transfer old Homer & Jethro recordings to CD.

Continued vibes for Harvey Schmidt, I played Potemkin in Celebration in college. I always wished I could have sung Somebody, but I did enjoy singing most of the other songs,  especially Not My Problem, Survive,  Love Song and Celebration.

If anyone is interested in trying out some nice, pleasant, easy listining folk/pop music I a highly recommend this CD by Gor Mkhitarian...a nice young Armenian singer who I have taken a liking to.

I did the northwest valley, mostly, (when they were farm towns), and Scottsdale, occasionally (I subbed for Maxine).

elmore: The CD package is exactly the same - that was what Harvey wanted.  I don't believe MattH has the CD, surprising given his love of Mr. Schmidt's music.  Oh, well.

Oh, and I helped the reporter in Superior Court on Evan Mecham's criminal trial by transcribing her computer notes (back when computers were fairly new in the biz).

Cool. I subbed in Scottsdale once in awhile myself. Maybe we saw each other years ago and just never met.

Of course, he was acquitted, so the transcript wasn't needed, so we didn't get paid for the work. Did you know he never finished a sentence, and his answers went on for PAGES without ever answering the question.

I was there during the Mecham trial...I'm assuming you mean the impeachment trial.

Did you ever see GUV?  It was a musical at a small theatre above some store on Mill Ave in Tempe.  I can't recall the name, it was before all the renovation. Anyway, it was hilarious and the guy who played Mecham looked exactly like him but he could sing. It featured the Evan Mecham I Told You So Tour

LOL! I haven't thought about him in years. He did provide a constant source of entertainment

The best part of the the musical GUV is that it went through every governor from the beginning up to the current time (which was the run off between Fife Simington and Terry Goddard...yeah I've been gone awhile) anyway, none of them were even remotely normal and it was hilarious.  From Governor Hunt building his pyramid tomb to Evan Mecham....

Described as "an ethical pygmy"and as having "the morals of a used-car salesman", Mecham became known for a number of statements and actions that were widely perceived as racist.

Of course he WAS a used-car salesman before he became governor LOL
