Well, you've read the notes, you've fiddled whilst the notes burned and vice-versa and also versa-vice, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're on the roof right now, fiddling away.

The DP returned from the east coast the other evening and brought me two tubs of "Fluff".... what fabulous stuff.

DR Jose - I'm not technolgically advanced to understand the foot pedal system, we're basically still in the stone ages when it comes to synth's.  We make these Keyboard books work the best we can.  I use a Boss "Dr. Synth" for all my synth needs, it's nice because it has buttons to go from sound bank to sound bank, and it's all general midi.  I'm using a Roland XP-10 (I think) for other things that I can not make the switches for while using the Dr Synth.  It's always a challenge to try and figure out what the orchestrator wants in terms of sounds, knowing that each synth is programmed for a specific show and then the patch is given a name.  My favorite for "Aida" has been 'Tribal Rumble Bass" - that was fun to try and figure out!

DR MATTHEW where are you playing the John-Rice AIDA?  I really liked the show when it came through Indy on tour a couple of years ago.

I would rank The Man That Got Away as one of my favorite Garland performances. Also Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas from Meet Me in Saint Louis.

Mr. Astaire's Shine on Your Shoes from The Bandwagon always makes me smile.

I do like Good Morning and Moses Supposes from Singing in the Rain.

Good morning, all!  I overslept, and I'm about to begin work on another report for the Toyland preface.  It's a revision, and I have my notes, but it will still consume most of my day.  Luckily the mind is sharp, no pencils needed, and I'm rarin' to start.

DRs Cillaliz and Ginny, my dear friend BK and I are not in agreement about JUNEBUG, but I enjoyed the performances and the family dynamic.  My co-godparent of Charlotte Raines is Celia Weston, who plays the mother, and I think she's always fun to watch.  There's also a wonderful musical moment from the leading man and some church members.  

TOD:  
  Judy Garland:  Under the Bamboo Tree
  Fred Astaire:  Never Gonna Dance
  Gene Kelly:  the number with the cartoon character

Sorry, DR MBarnum, I find Mr Kelly cold.  I'd bet he was great in PAL JOEY.

Hmmmm tried thinking of the TOD and all I can think of is Donald O'Connor's "Make 'Em Laugh" from Singing In the Rain


Whichis odd as I love Fred Astaire and  Gene Kelly... oh!   Fred Astaire in the one where he dances on the walls and the ceiling... from Royal Wedding  oh dang what's the name of it.......




As for Gene Kelly, the one with the mouse was good , but also the ballet  thing around the fountain from an American In Paris and the Gotta Dance routine from New York, New York..... oh I don't know which is my favorite... and the Singing In the Rain routine itself....



I differ with you on Gene Kelly, elmore I found he left me .....well, the opposite of cold  ;)

Serra High School in San Mateo, CA.  The students are doing a great job, on stage and in the pit.  It's not an easy show, vocally, but the leads are doing a great job.

DR DakotaCelt, the second half of the Tony Dow interview went great! He is a really nice, down to earth guy and I enjoyed talking to him, and he appreciated having an opportunity to talk about his work as a director.

Good morning!

The temperature descent has begun. It was cold last night and today doesn't promise much in the way of highs: high 50s. It's going to be even lower in the upcoming days. Still, it's very pleasant despite the letdown in temperatures. Mother Nature gets us all primed for spring, and then she snatches it away.

Yes, I can understand Agatha Christie's dissatisfaction with Rutherford's Miss Marple since she's nothing at all like she was written, but those films all have such entertainment value that I find it's easily forgiven. Besides, we've had definitive interpretations of the character since then, so these can be enjoyed for what they are.

Imagine Dame Agatha's distress to have Miss Marple played by Margaret Rutherford and Hercule Poirot by Tony Randall all within a couple of years of each other. No wonder she was so opposed to having her terrific books filmed.

All three of those musical performers left so many memorable moments in their film musicals.

My top pick for Judy is also "Get Happy" from SUMMER STOCK. But "Happy Harvest" from the same film is such a great tune, and "The Portland Fancy" that she dances with Gene in that film is superb. Can't wait to get this musical on DVD in that upcoming musical box from Warners.
