For Gene, I'd have to pick "The Pirate Ballet" from THE PIRATE. I think it's the sexiest production number he ever filmed.

"I Like Myself" from IT'S ALWAYS FAIR WEATHER is also memorable for me.

Serra High School in San Mateo, CA.  The students are doing a great job, on stage and in the pit.  It's not an easy show, vocally, but the leads are doing a great job.

Thanks!  ;D

"I Like Myself" is a perfect number for Gene Kelly to do....in fact almost every number he does in the movies could have that as part of the title (in parens)....."Singin' In the Rain (I Like Myself)"..."Moses Supposes (I Like Myself)"and of course the "Alter Ego Ballet (I Like Myself - Twice)."

Well, I admit he did seem very self satisfied....but I still like the way he filled out his trousers danced ;)

For Fred, there are so, so many solos and dances with partners.

I'd say "Sunday Jumps" from ROYAL WEDDING (where he dances with the hat rack and some gym equipment) is probably his wittiest dance.

I also like "Seeing's Believing" from THE BELLE OF NEW YORK and "Bojangles of Harlem" from SWING TIME.

With partners, well, where to start? "This Heart of Mine" from ZIEGFELD FOLLIES, "Dancing in the Dark" from THE BAND WAGON, "Let's Face the Music and Dance" from FOLLOW THE FLEET, and, for a comic number, "How Could You Believe Me" from ROYAL WEDDING.

If I could dance as well as Gene Kelly, I'd be self-satified, too.

Oh, DR Vixmom, that Astraire dance on the walls and ceiling is "You're All the World to Me" from ROYAL WEDDING.

So did anyone rush out to buy a Gor Mkhitarian CD?

Do I not have any influence on your people?

I really do think that Armenian pop music is the next new big fad!

Partner dances for Kelly:

I mentioned him and Garland in "The Portland Fancy." Of course, Leslie Caron in "An American in Paris ballet." With Vera-Ellen in "Main Street from ON THE TOWN and "Slaughter on Tenth Avenue" in WORDS AND MUSIC. Naturally the dance with Astaire in ZIEGFELD FOLLIES ("The Babbit and the Bromide") and with O'Connor ("Moses Supposes").

I'm up, I'm up.  Interesting trivia note - playing a couple of scenes with Miss Rutherford in Murder She Said is Miss Joan Hickson, who would, of course, go on to play Miss Marple in many, many TV films from the UK.

I've always regretted that Judy couldn't complete ROYAL WEDDING. I thought she and Peter Lawford made such an attractive couple in EASTER PARADE, and they would actually have gotten to end up together in ROYAL WEDDING! I also would have loved to have heard her sing those Burton Lane songs in the film. Thankfully, she did sing "Too Late Now" on her television series, but I'll bet she would have been hilarious as the gun moll in "How Could You Believe Me" and doing the pratfalls in "Open Your Eyes" as the luxury liner tosses and pitches while they're dancing.

A real loss.

Oh, my, I totally forgot my favorite Kelly duet: "The Heather on the Hill" with Miss Cyd Charisse, one of the loveliest romantic dances ever filmed!

HUH? Dept.

Quote
Lodi, Calif. (March 16) - When a dump truck backed into Curtis Gokey's car, he decided to sue the city for damages. Only thing is, he was the one driving the dump truck. But that minor detail didn't stop Gokey, a Lodi city employee, from filing a $3,600 claim for the December accident, even after admitting the crash was his fault.

After the city denied that claim because Gokey was, in essence, suing himself, he and his wife, Rhonda, decided to file a new claim under her name.

City Attorney Steve Schwabauer said this one also lacks merit because Rhonda Gokey can't sue her own husband.

"You can sue your spouse for divorce, but you can't sue your spouse for negligence," Schwabauer said. "They're a married couple under California law. They're one entity. It's damage to community property."

But Rhonda Gokey insisted she has "the right to sue the city because a city's vehicle damaged my private vehicle."

In fact, her claim, currently pending at Lodi City Hall, is for an even larger amount -- $4,800.

"I'm not as nice as my husband is," she said.

DR DakotaCelt, the second half of the Tony Dow interview went great! He is a really nice, down to earth guy and I enjoyed talking to him, and he appreciated having an opportunity to talk about his work as a director.

Great!!

Did he discuss his work with the Doctor Who movie?
