My DVR seems to be screwy...when it records a show it only seems to record about 1 minute of it. And when you try to fastward a show (the one show it did record most of) it freezes up.

It also makes some strange noises.

The Comcast cable man is coming tomorrow morning to look at it.

There was a short on TCM tonight about music in the movies - the purpose of which seemed to be to introduce audiences to Rise' Stevens who was being featured in a movie with Nelson Eddy.

Miss Stevens never appeared on the screen without being described as beautiful or lovely and Lovely AND beautiful.

She certainly has a lovely voice - but she looks like Evgeny Pleshenko.

Pogue - It was a TV movie sequel to Rich Man, Poor Man called Beggarman, Thief.  I remember very little about it - just that I was offered (in the days when that sort of thing happened on TV) a one day role because the director really liked my work.  At that stage of my career I didn't do much day work, so I turned it down - until they told me my scene was with Jean Simmons.  I took the role immediately and she was just incredibly beautiful and charming, and she loved me because I made her laugh the entire day.  Two of my fondest memories are rehearsing in the trailers of Miss Simmons and with Patricia Neal on Ghost Story.  Can you imagine?

The party was great, actually.  I usually detest these little soirees where I don't know hardly anyone, but this was just a charming little soiree.  It took place at the widow MacKendrick's apartment in Westwood.   I met her and she was very nice.  The man who invited me, film composer John Scott, was there and we had a nice chat.  Also, my neighbors were there (Bob Gitt and Tony Slide - I should have bummed a ride with them), and they'd brought along Miss Samantha Eggar.  Also in attendance was film composer John Beal and his lovely wife, my pals Jon Burlingame and Marilee Bradford, but no Jean Simmons.  I was introduced to Miss Eggar, who I LOOOOOOVE, but it was just a brief introduction.  But then, about a half-hour later, she joined in a conversation I was having with Beal and Gitt, and we just stood around talking for about forty-five minutes.  She looks swell, and she's bright and vivascious and a delight, and she only lives five minutes from me, over in Sherman Oaks.  I may try to set up a little dinner party with her, and my neighbors, and John Scott.  That would be ever so much fun.

Well, I have done all the work I plan to do tonight. Today was INSANE at the office. It was just one crazy interruption after another. I am glad it's over but tomorrow doesn't look a lot better

Samantha Eggar - wow!  I adored her on the TV series of ANNA AND THE KING, even when they had that preposterous laugh track for its first airing.  I think it debuted the same night as M*A*S*H.

...Although, I used to have people who would call me "Ho-sway".  At first I thought they were making fun of me, and then I found out that "Ho-sway" was the Spanish version of "Joshua".  -At least that's what I think/hoped I found out what it was.  ;)

DR Dan (the Man) - That video clip is hysterical.

*And ebaumsworld.com is filled with many "gems".  I'm particularly fond of some of the "variations" on the various Peanuts/Charlie Brown TV specials.  ;D

DR FJL - Remember... It's only fattening if you feel guilty about it.

*And I have to say, there has to be some "truth" in that statement.

I feel no guilt.  It's not my fault I'm too short.  Just that for my weight, I should be 10 foot 7.

The title of today's notes reminds me of that song we used to exercise to at Camp Ackerman's in my youth.  It went "zetz, ei didl de dum!"  I can't find the full lyric on the internet, but I assume it was called "Zetz."

When I searched for "zetz," I got some references to Catherine Zetz-Jones - I kid you not.

Just watched the fine two hour Ric Burns docu about Eugene O'Neill. Depressing, but very moving. Have to watch LONG DAY'S JOURNEY again. The docu reminded me once more of what a fine actor Christopher Plummer can be. And Jason Robards...  I miss him!
I was sitting there watching all this and crying... and my doggie came over and put his head on my lap. Sweet.  ...And kinda pathetic. The high life in Hollywood. Sitting around and watching dead playwrights with your dog's head on your lap as you weep... Oy!

Yes, they were fine actors, both gentlemen.
