Good Evening!

My roommate, Faith, made an amazingly delicious Potato and Fennel Gratin.  I've had one serving...  And I'm trying to resist a second...

Time for Valley Of The Dolls.  Just watched the recalled Fox noir, Boomerang, about which more later.

And I finally broke open a comedy DVD set I have and watched a fine Lum and Abner film entitled DREAMING OUT LOUD. For those not in the know, Lum and Abner were two characters from a radio show who made a handful of films as well. They run the Jot 'Em Down general store in Pine Ridge, Arkansas. A very funny pair with good chemistry. It's really laid-back commedy. One can see that Buddy Ebsen took a lot of his Jed Clampett mannerisms from Chester Lauck's Lum character.

The odd thing about this film is it for their movie debut they chose a plot where in the first 5 minutes a little girl is run over by a car, and more folks die before all is said and done. The plot involves rasing money for a mobile medical unit for the town. Looking forward to the other three L&A  films on this set.

I finished watching ROSE MARIE to begin my evening of viewing. All three stars sing well for themselves. I love the richness of Ann Blyth's soprano (as opposed to the quivery trilling of someone like Kathryn Grayson.) Ann should have had a bigger career in musicals.

Next up was the third episode on THE WILD WILD WEST boxed set of Season 1 episodes. This was the episode that introduced Michael Dunn as the diabolical Dr. Loveless.

Imagine my surprise when the female guest star of the episode turned out to be . . . . .

LESLIE PARRISH!!!!!

She looked lovely. During the episode she had her hair both up and down and wore a nice array of gowns and leisure wear (for the antebellum US time period.)

I finished the evening watching GOLDFINGER for the millionth time. I never, ever tire of this James Bond movie. As I did with DR. NO the other night, I had my receiver apply Dolby Prologic IIx to the mono sound to simulate Dolby surround. Gave the movie a nice full sound.

GOLDFINGER is definitely a movie that needs restoration, however. There is plenty of dirt on this transfer, and with the millions of dollars this movie has made, Sony/MGM or Fox (whoever now is claiming distribution rights on this classic) need to spiff it up a bit for the more rigorous standards that modern technology requires.

I also loaded BRIGADOON into the player to revisit tomorrow. I have one more WILD WILD WEST on the first disc in the set to watch. Still haven't gotten to ENTOURAGE. And I'll watch the laserdisc of NANCY GOES TO RIO tomorrow as well.

I'm heading to bed a little earlier tonight. Didn't get a great amount of sleep last night and would love to get 8 hours tonight if possible.

Good night, all!

TPunk! DO audition for GYPSY - it's one of the greatest of all musicals - whatta hoot! What part would you audition for? The first time I ever did anything from that show, BK directed me in the Strippers Trio - You Gotta Get a Gimmick.

I had a good day's writing on the presentation for my interview. I'm feeling so optimistic! When I first began, I felt just overwhelmed and hopeless... but one takes that first step, into the work, and time disappears. I've been having such a good time working on this. Happens every time - first, just overwhelmed and too stoopid to think. Take one small step into it - Voila! A little brains, a little talent, and all's right with the world!!!

Mr. Jose - what's on your horizon? Right before your show closed, you mentioned you might have some nice gig coming...

I am really only interested in playing Louise.  It's not that I'm a super diva (just a medium one) but I've worked with this group in the past and it can be a trying experience, with disorganized rehearsals, and low production values.  The fun for me would be to play with a great leading role.

The heavy, cloudy weather makes me so sleepy - guess I'll say good night to all and head for the blankies. Sweet dreams, sweet folk!

TPunk, you ARE Louise.

I'm going to do a nightclub act just like the one Tony Scotti does in Valley Of The Dolls.  You know, come out and sing one song and then it's done.

Go for it TPunk!!

TPunk, I LOVE Gypsy!  I was in a production about 12 years ago and I played a placard changer...I was Uncle Jocko's assistant in the first scene, but otherwise, for the most part, all I and Alice did was change the placards listing the names of the scenes.  We had free reign to come up with ideas on how to do it.  I had a great time just being in the show. ;D
