That was taken at the dog park.  Her home pool is blue and a little bigger then that one.

Ben, Jose, FJL, anybody else in NYC - I've been watching MSNBC's coverage of the explosion/fire on E. 62nd St.  Glad to see you all here on HHW.

My first reaction when I heard the news was "I hope it's not my building!"  I feel sorry for all the emergency folk who had to run in and secure the place.

Well, my dad is on a new chemo treatment, and so far, after this morning's round, he seems okay.  I'm hoping it doesn't make him sick.  He's now moved into the house where I'm staying, and he's in a good humor.

The discussion at the moment is "who's taking me to the airport tomorrow?"

I'm entering my pre-flight jitters, so keep those travel vibes coming!

I just read that, too.  According to the article:

Allyson died Saturday at her home in Ojai, with her husband of nearly 30 years, David Ashrow, at her side, Powell said. She died of pulmonary respiratory failure and acute bronchitis after a long illness.

Fox News

Quote
Actress June Allyson Dies at 88Monday , July 10, 2006

LOS ANGELES — June Allyson, the sunny, cracked-voiced "perfect wife" of James Stewart, Van Johnson and other movie heroes, has died, her daughter Pamela Allyson Powell said Monday. She was 88.

Allyson died Saturday at her home in Ojai, with her husband of nearly 30 years, David Ashrow, at her side, Powell said in a telephone interview.

She died of pulmonary respiratory failure and acute bronchitis after a long illness, Powell said.

During World War II, American GIs pinned up photos of Rita Hayworth and Betty Grable, but June Allyson was the girl they wanted to come home to. Petite, blonde and alive with fresh-faced optimism, she seemed the ideal sweetheart and wife, supporting and unthreatening.

"I had the most wonderful last meeting with June at her house in Ojai. We had gotten lost in the car. She told me: 'I could wait for you forever.' We were such dear friends. I will miss her," lifelong friend Esther Williams said.

With typical wonderment, Allyson expressed surprise in a 1986 interview that she had ever become a movie star:

"I have big teeth. I lisp. My eyes disappear when I smile. My voice is funny. I don't sing like Judy Garland. I don't dance like Cyd Charisse. But women identify with me. And while men desire Cyd Charisse, they'd take me home to meet Mom."

I've just pre-ordered a PIRATES OF PENZANCE DVD from either New Zealand or Austrslia, I forget which.  There is a Derek Metzger listed among the cast.  I'm wondering if this could be our late lamented Ozderek?

Derek Metzger is from New Zeland.  He played the lead in the Autralasian production of "Me and My Girl".
He has a Cd availabe (maybe still) "Me & My Songs" which is a collection of the usual suspects but pleasant listening. I don't think He and OzDerek ever met but nothing would surprise me knowing the network of people known to young Derek.

What we need is Dakota Celt to get to the Days Of Our Lives people.

Perhaps a nude photo of Mr. Spirtas on the cover?

Back from spending the afternoon with my friend Suellyn.  We saw A Prairie Home Companion at 1pm, then proceeded to eat at Izzy's (a deli).  They were closed due to smoke damage from a fire at the restaurant next door last week, so we went to Cornerstone Cafe instead.  They were closing in half an hour, so we had a quick sandwich & salad, then proceeded to Barnes & Noble for coffee and a long visit.

The PHC movie was not what I expected, but a lot of fun.  Who knew a sculpture of F. Scott Fitzgerald's head could be so funny?

Well, I think I've answered the Boo question. I got a response today to my find Bootsie a home email, and it was from a mother and her darling daughter who could provide Boots a fabulous home....my response.....uh...uh....I'm really sorry but I've decided to give it another week or two.  I just couldn't do it...she has been exploring the house while Callie is behind closed doors. She follows me everywhere. It's really cute

My parents' reponse to PHC was..."We didn't think it was a very good movie, but we really enjoyed it"  Funny, but I know exactly what they mean
