Oh... The Topic of the Day...

My favorite pastas tend to be whatever the three pastas happened to be featured at Becco on their daily "Sinfonia di Pasta" special.  

However, anytime any sort of ravioli is featured on their menu, I tend to ask for second - and third helpings.  Pumpkin ravioli in a sage butter.  Spinach ravioli in a garlic-parmesan cream sauce.  Veal ravioli in bolognese sauce.  Mushroom ravioli... Etc., etc., etc...

And on a related note... When it comes to gnocchi, there's only good gnocchi and bad gnocchi.  And baked gnocchi - a la Romana - is the perfect wintertime meal.

After being admonished by DR Ron for my regid scheduing, I'm pleased to report my evening of viewing did NOT go exactly as planned.

It started as I expected, watching the entirety of GENTLEMEN MARRY BRUNETTES. Not a very successful musical even though I have to say the print that TCM showed was pretty much pristine with sharp focus and gorgeous, deeply saturated Technicolor. It's early Cinemascope, so the aspect ratio looked like the 2.55:1 that the earliest films in that process had.

There was one fun number, "Daddy" that Jane Russell and Jeanne Crain (vocal by Anita Ellis) did a kind of striptease to using feathers and some purple curtained mini-screens. The other new songs were totally forgettable, and the score also made use of some standards like "My Funny Valentine," "Ain't Misbehavin'," and "I Wanna Be Loved by You."

It was unusual seeing Scott Brady in a musical (vocal dubbing by Robert Farnon) instead of playing the Dancin' Kid in JOHNNY GUITAR, and Alan Young isn't the best singer in the world either.

Next, I watched a couple of more MEDIUM episodes from the Season 1 set. The first involved Allison's visions of a serial killer which turned out to be visions of future events some 7-10 years hence. I remember being very frustrated watching this the first time because it kept seeming like she was making all these mistakes and her visions were leading her away from the truth instead of toward it.

Another episode involved Joe's work partner running into some health problems forseen by Allison. A second plot in this episode involved an elaborate stunt by a son to gain control of his father's money.

Back from the Skip E. Lowe taping, about which more later.  Then had a divoonly divoon dinner at Genghis Cohen.  I'm always so happy when dining there.

I knew that in order to finish the MEDIUM episode I was watching, that I would run about five minutes late after the start of RESCUE ME. Since the DVR allows users to run the clock back, so to speak, and watch TV either in real time or in previous time, I knew I could run RESCUE back to the beginning and start there when I was ready to watch it.

Well, I hit the rewind button, and the cable box resets itself! Must of had my finger on two keys at once or something. At any rate, the box rebotted itself and erased the previous parts of RESCUE ME that it had been recording in real time.

So, I just set the DVR to record the second run of the show at 11:02 and instead looked for something else to watch for that last 45 minutes.

In seaarching through some videotapes for JRand's YOUNGBLOOD HAWKE the other day, I ran across THE SEARCH FOR THE RUBY SLIPPERS, a documentary that aired on A&E quite a few years ago. It was adapted from the book THE RUBY SLIPPERS OF OZ and is an excellent synopsis of that marvelous book. So, I watched that documentary for my final program of the evening.

Very entertaining.

Well, that was an enjoyable couple of hours.  This was an independent pilot for a new superhero animated series that is going to be shopped around.  I was cast as the villian.............. Why? .......... I am a lover, not a fighter!
