Well, you've read the notes, you are now happening and with it, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're trying to fix their collective brains to no avail.

Jane in "The Paleface".

Mr Gable - nothing. I've only seen GWTW and it is not a film I have any time for at all.  I can appreciate the technical "wonders" but I still don't like the film.

Jane Russell..."Gentlemen Prefer Blondes"

I'll have to think about Clark's movies.

This isn't the first time that I cannot come up with an anagram, this time for IMPRIMIS.

I never cared for Clark Gable.  He always struck me as a smartass.

Jane Russell's talents were sizable.

It's almost the weekend!

Or, at least I'm getting a weekend this week, on Wednesday and Thursday.

Wednesday, we're planning on rescuing the grandlads from daycare and taking them to a movie, and probably lunch (or dinner).

Thursday, we may head up to Philly to take in the sights.

Thank you for the congrats. I love the challenge of the trivia question because they are so unique not like:

Name the playwright who wrote 3 plays one each in the 60's, 70's & 80's and all three were one night flops. (BK Knows the answer to this one)

BK goes beyond that type of question and when I cannot figure it out I get frustrated because I feel I should have been able to do it.

So bring them on!

TOD:

Jane Russell I don't remember any movie she did that I could call a favorite.
Although I do remember her tv commercials for bras and asking what a full figure woman was when I was a young lad. (The answer was. She has big boobs courtesy of my mother.)

Clark Gable was never a favorite of mine because he was always Clark Gable. He is another actor who although made many movies over the years I have only seen a handful of films.
San Franscisco, Gone With the Wind, Run Silent, Run Deep, It Happened One Night, Command Decision and It Started In Naples.

Oh....well....

Clark Gable is a lot of fun.  I like some comedies he did in the late 50's including:

TEACHER'S PET with Miss Doris Day
BUT NOT FOR ME with Miss Carroll Baker and Miss Lilli Palmer

And of course his MGM output.....TEST PILOT, THE HUCKSTERS, RED DUST, and MANHATTAN MELODRAMA

For those who may know:  SIX TALL MEN was playing at Grauman's Chinese Theatre when Lucy Ricardo and Ethel Mertz stole John Wayne's footprints.

Jane Russell...

SON OF PALEFACE with Bob Hope...(because it also has Roy Rogers in it)

HIS KIND OF WOMAN (singing "Five Little Miles from San Berdoo") and her scenes with Vincent Price

Her musical numbers in GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES - "Two Little Girls from Little Rock", "Ain't There Anyone Here for Love", and "When Love Goes Wrong."

DR TOMovOZ mentioned TRAPEZE last night.  I watched it on TCM last month and taped it.

I saw it on television MANY years ago....strange movie.   The more I see of Mr. Burt Lancaster in his regular films (and Mr Kirk Douglas, too) the less I understand their contemporary appeal.

Re yesterday's comedy team of Yin and Yang: I, for one, thought it quite humorous. Sorry I didn't pass that on, BK; like you, I had quite a busy day, not without certain unpleasantness. Must dash--just wanted you to have some feedback on Y & Y.

I really DO love GONE WITH THE WIND, not just for its technical acheivements, but for its strength of characters, well-written screenplay, impressive score and two (or four) towering performances, including Mr. Gable's.
Still, I have to say that my favorite Gable pictures are:
THE MISFITS
TEACHER'S PET
SAN FRANCISCO
MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY
IDIOT'S DELIGHT

As far as Ms. Russell is concerned, the two Anita Loos musicals are fun;
GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES
GENTLEMEN MARRY BRUNETTES (is its Loos?)
THE FRENCH LINE
I'm not inordinately fond of THE OUTLAW, but, oh, what a gay subtext!
Fondly, from my childhood, I remember the Million Dollar Movie showing THE FUZZY PINK NIGHTGOWN. . .(maybe I just like the title so much that I cannot forget it).

Yesterday, I transferred Joe Gage's "Working Man" Trilogy to dvd-r   :-X

Notes from last night's northwest regional musical theater auditions:

Bizarre pair of "most frequently performed" shows:  Last night the bulk of auditioners did tunes from either Last 5 Years (predictable) or.... (are you ready?).....Oliver!  In fact, more people did things from Oliver! than any other show.  Weird.

Other unusual repeats:  Several people did Spark of Creation, but thankfully all of them had the score in C, which is the one I'm most used to.  And one girl went a little starry-eyed when, after she handed me Lion Tamer, I told her I knew the guy who produced Kristen's version.

What were they thinking department:  One guy did a tune from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer musical episode, a tune with such an illogical harmonic structure and tuneless shape that he basically self-destructed.  One woman did a song from that other Reefer Madness  ::) and I don't mind telling you it fell completely flat.  I of course let all the theater companies know about Oregon's "homegrown" version of Reefer.   ;D

Last night's "confound the accompanist" trend:  copies with the bass clef of each page's final system lopped off.  That's fine if it's a tune everyone knows, or if there are chord symbols above, but when it's something by La Chuisa I've never heard of (sans chord symbols), which has all sorts of "modern" chords  ;D, I don't know how they expect me to intuit what the correct left hand notes are.

I'm up, I'm up, but am going to try to get another hour's sleep momentarily.

I, too, saw The Fuzzy Pink Nightgown numerous times on the Million Dollar Movie.  Don't remember much of it, though.  As to Mr. Gable, I don't know a lot of his films so hence the topic.  I do like him in Teacher's Pet, The Misfits, and a few others I've seen - wouldn't say he's my favorite.  And for some reason, It Happened One Night has never really done it for me.

Good morning, all!  It's a lazy, rainy day for sleeping in so I  did.  Since rising, however, I've received an invite from Mr Tom Jones to THE FANTASTICKS on Sunday, percussion requests from Stephen Cole concerning NIGHT OF THE HUNTER which will play the New York Musical Theatre Festival, an invite to a reading tonight of THE TRAGIC AND HORRIBLE LIFE OF THE SINGING NUN, and a call from a friend who's in town this week.

I am now going to the NYPL Theatre Collection for some rollicking research and good times.

Good morning!

Overcast here, but not especially cool. Rain is forecast for later today, and with the skies, so cloudy, I suspect the weathermen have it right.

I don't know why I didn't mention it yesterday, but I found the classic comedy of Ying and Yang to be most enjoyable...and it gave me a very good laugh (as did grand-daughters letter regarding it! )  :D

I am hot and cold on Gable. I think he's masterful in GONE WITH THE WIND, MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY, and those macho movies like RED DUST, TEST PILOT, and BOOM TOWN.

My favorite is SAN FRANCISCO. And the DVD has been sitting out ready to play for weeks. I wish I hadn't watched the videotape of it only two months ago. I'm just not ready to get back to it again so soon. But it is my favorite of his movies.
