I just finished talking to my neighbor across the street.  I jokingly said "Did you hear me scream last night?" She said "YES, it really freaked me out and I almost called the police"  Turns out she reads a lot of Dean Koontz and she had a very frightening image of what was going on in my house.   I told her the bat story.  She was glad to hear it I wasn't tied up and someone burning my fingernails off - Yikes, with that imagination I wonder how she sleeps at night!

Anyway, they don't get bats, but the neighbor next to them does. I've heard more bat stories today that I really care to. Oh Joy

jhvw - glad I could make you laugh. It wasn't funny at the time, but I knew it would be later.   Now that I am armed with a butterfly net, I feel much safer

I was able to get the Fall tv preview TV Guide last night, and I looked through it (and my sister's Entertainment Weekly). There are really not too many shows that interest me.

I will try a few: Brothers & Sisters (Calista Flockhart, Ron Rifkin...), Ugly Betty (young girl works in fashion house), and the Anne Heche show on Friday nights.

I'm not sure if i will watch Nine (scott wolf drama about 9 people trapped in a robbery together.

The one that i actually think sounds the most interesting is Six Degrees (i'm not sure if the full title is six degrees). Anyhow it is by the creators of Lost and Alias.

I know the most talked about new show is Studio 60. I may give that one try.

Think I'm going to watch Mrs. Henderson Presents tonight. I never did see it at the theater and it's the first of my renewed Netflix membership.

I'm just catching up on posts from yesterday.

DR Cillaliz wrote in response to thursday's Big Brother show:

Quote
I was happy Erika won POV. I was disgusted Janelle won HOH. I think the producers have clearly favored her all season and I'm really sick of it. I hope anyone but Janelle wins.

Oh my gosh i can't believe how differently we view things. I was so mad erika won pov. I really wanted her gone. She is making me sick. If i have to watch her jump mike boogie another time i will vomit.

I really want janelle to win. And want will to be F2.  I don't think janelle was really favored in the hoh, since anyone could have gotten those questions.

It's not just that competition, but if you read Canoe, and I think you do, you know there have been a number of questionable competitions and Janelle always comes out the winner.

I really liked her last year, but this "showmance" with Will just makes me want to gag.  I wanted George or Danielle to win it all.  They were the least sleezy.  I really don't want anyone left to win.  Of the 4, I would say Will is the best player. He's had them all wrapped around his finger from day one.  So, I guess I would vote for him.  My guess is if Janelle doesn't win the veto she'll go next. I think Chilltown sees her as more of a threat than they see Erika

Happy Happy Birthday, DR Ron Pulliam! Are you planning to do anything special today?

Thank you, DearReaderLaura!  I've had several phone calls from family and friends.  My dinner will be my "special" thing -- steak and potato!

DR TCB - More cuts for DP Colin this Thursday.  Not sure if it will be a cut above the rest. I did think of other comments but remembered that they would be more appropriate for Dr Elmore's VCR.

Congrats, DR and Homeowner George!

Just came back from seeing an excellent movie! HALF NELSON, starring the terrific Ryan Gossling. Highly recommended. Here is the first paragraph of the NY Times review:
“Half Nelson” is that rarest of marvels — an American fiction film that wears its political heart on its sleeve. It’s a small film with a long view, and its story hinges on an unusually nuanced relationship between a white man [a history teacher] and a black girl [his 13-year-old student], each of whom has landed in harm’s way. The delicacy of its lead performances... and its sense of everyday texture are each worthy of praise. But what makes “Half Nelson” both an unusual and an exceptional American film, particularly at a time when even films about Sept. 11 are professed to have no politics, is its insistence on political consciousness as a moral imperative.

I wanted "that person" gone after the second challenge.

And after last week....well, it looks like bad karma takes care of its own.

I'm available for dinner in the theatre district  on Saturday 23rd if anyone wants to hear those accents that distinguish between mary, merry and marry.

Tomovoz - Just sent you a PM.  I'm not available on the 23rd-24th due to Rosh Hashanah and likely family commitments, but how about pre-theater on the 22nd?

Just taking a break from...whatever it is that I'm supposed to be doing (but I'm not ::)).

Oh, that's right.  Cleaning my bedroom.  Okay, this time I WILL start cleaning. ;)

In the mail today, I got the original 1974 cast recording of Candide and the original cast recording of Grey Gardens.  I'm going to put one in my DVD player in my bedroom to inspire me to clean...and to just remind me to stay there.

On the Candide CD, it says "This recording utilizes Sony's Direct Stream Digital™ (DSD) System and SBM Direct.  Does anyone have a freakin' clew as to what these are??

Does it mean a crisp no pan and scan transfer with very few artifactm, washed our titles, softened color but a non fuzzy sound in almost the correct ratio but only marginally improved from the laserdisc transfer  - the one without the director's cut fingerprints?

I do get all these things confused. Maybe that's why I can't find the visuals on my CD.

We have been ordering new dog supplies from an on-line company, including a new black crate (Echo’s old one won’t be large enough). We received everything except the leads & a grooming table.  I wish we had had a table for Echo, maybe then I wouldn’t have messed up my hip grooming her on the floor.

We were charged for the grooming table & then credited for it.  I called & they said it was discontinued but I could order the next size up for the same amount.  Now I need to call them back, same scenario-we were charged for the table, should have received it but now there is a credit back into our account.  Yet both times we were not informed of the changes.???

We did receive the missing leads (a type of training leash).  Also packed in the box was an empty jar of Vaseline.  ::)
