Birthday greetings to Joy (we miss you!) and S. Holmes.

I'm off to meet DH Richard at Panera for lunch and then to pick up a 21st birthday present for our DS Rob (Thursday is his birthday)

Bye for now.

Watched a short documentary on the BEAST FROM 20,000 FATHOMS and saw the name of Friend of BK - Mr David Wechter.

As for Edith Head not winning the OSCAR for those overdone rags in TO CATCH A THIEF....didn't bother me.  I thought the costumes for LOVE IS A MANY SPLENDORED THING were lovely.  Edit Head always thought nothing succeeds like excess.  I think she spent too many years with DeMille.

More likely... Agnes!

Dakota, I didn’t read LIKE WATER LIKE CHOCOLATE.  I hope the book was far superior to the movie.

We should get our puppy on September 23rd, which one it will be of the five in the litter we still don't know.

I wish you well when you get your new baby...

I loved the book. There even little recipes throughout the book. The recipes are an intregal part of the novel.

Back from a jog.  Shall now go out to the garage environment to try and find some stuff buried in a box.

BIG BROTHER 7 -- SPOILER

Go on....you know you want to read....

SPOILER

...but if you really don't want to read, go no  further....

SPOILER

...'cause I'm not joking now.  I'm gonna spill some beans!

SPOILER

After all that hoo-haw....guess who won, breaking James' record?

I guess that gave it away, since only Janelle was near his record.  Janelle won.  She must nominate Will if she uses the POV on herself.

And then she will have to vote either Will or Erika out of the house.

Money is on Erika....because she's the one most likely to win an endurance compeitition, which is what the final HOH generally consists of, at least in part (they have been in three parts in the past).

I'd love to see Janelle and Erika make a pact to ditch ChillTown and go to the final two together.  Truth is, though, Erika wouldn't do that as long as Mike is in the house...so, I guess Erika will just have to go.

We shall see.

Earlier this week, when BK's topic sent me down my Michigan memory lane I found a recipe for Maurice salad, which was a Detroit specialty.

For your  Michegan Memory Book:

From the Oakland Press

Quote
Whether you're an old Hudson's restaurant diehard or couldn't care less about such old faves as its Maurice Salad, cheese soup or chicken pot pie, the new Lakeshore Grill at Marshall Field's in Oakland Mall should satisfy either way.

If you like cheese, one of the Hudson's holdovers is Canadian cheese soup with sautéed vegetables ($2.95 cup, $3.95 bowl); it didn't disappoint. The soup was cheesy and tasty, and the vegetables were minimal so as to enhance, not to interfere with what has to be one of the cheesiest soups we've encountered. It's so rich you may want to consider sharing a bowl.

My companion ordered what is arguably the defining Hudson's favorite, the Maurice salad ($8.50). It was as we remembered, with shredded lettuce, julienne ham, turkey, Swiss cheese, sweet gherkin relish and of course Maurice dressing. Nothing has changed with the Maurice, and that is compliment enough for this classic.

Everyone, it seems, wanted to know if the Hudson's ice cream puff was still on the menu and indeed it is ($3.95). A cream puff shell split, filled with ice cream and topped with Sanders hot fudge - worth the trip for just the fudge.

Hungry?

I also want to cook.   I bought some turkey thighs I'm going to roast.  Then I'm thinking of making some dressing with apples and onions in it.  I picked up that one from Rachael Ray and really love it. I also got some fresh brussel sprouts and can have fresh peaches on vanilla ice cream for dessert. mmmm

Are they Jewish thighs?

Found some really cool stuff in the boxes - totally forgot I had some of this.  Still haven't found the box I'm looking for, but I may need someone to come over and help me completely rearrange the garage, as it's really confusing and I need to maximize the space in there anyway.

Dontcha love the direction to garnish the plate with 2 olives.  Not 1, not 3, 2!  I think I'll be wild and crazy and use 3 or 4 per plate!  DH Richard really likes olives.

Well to keep DH happy, use this recipe from Mon's Zone.

This calls from one cup of olives added to to the salad - so your can fish out extras for DH.

A note on Poker:

From the Associated Press

Quote
WILLIS, Okla. (AP) -- Steve Dover was vacationing at Lake Texoma when he saw two speedboats boats take off for a poker competition. They never returned.
...
The boats collided during the High Roller Poker Run on Saturday. Four people died at the scene and two were flown to the hospital, where one later died, according to the patrol.

Philippi said Gordon Mineo was the organizer of the poker run, in which participants get a playing card at each of five different stops along the lake and then compare their cards at the end of the game. The team with the best poker hand wins.

"They were still involved in the poker run when the accident took place," she said

Wouldn't simple dealing be safer?

A slight dusting of Nutmeg on the sprouts would complement the dressing.

Fletcher is on the floor nearby, dreaming.  His feet are twitching - he's having a good run somewhere.

Do Dalmatians dream in black and white?

Hey! You're the one with Fletcher around; why don't you ask him! ;)

Jessica may know about it!

I believe they have spotty images in their dreams! :D

Just posting this again, since it may have gotten lost amidst the mirth and merriment of last night's frenzies and such:

Announcing an HHW get-together in NYC on Saturday evening, Sept. 30th around 8 p.m.

Place:  a restaurant in the theater district, to be determined once we know approximately how many people are coming

Finances: every person pays for his or her own food & drink

Reason for the get-together:  BK will be in town and at this particular get-together

If you can come:  Email me at my AOL address Dylan43rd  - ASAP, but let's pick a random date for RSVP'ing of Sept. 15th so that we'll have plenty of time to make a reservation

I HATE "SUMMER RERUNS"!! ;)
