At some point today I became a "Jr. Member". That really makes me feel very warm and special, somehow! Even more special than having RamJack here for the day! LOL

DR JRand56, I love your avatar. Is it the Iron Giant?

Yes it is The Iron Giant.....love that movie!  ;D

The scripts on that site rough draft/final of THE DAY THE CLOWN CRIED are jaw droppingingly awful - but it really seems to be the culmination of the direction Lewis was going in starting with THE GEISHA BOY.  ::)

... all fershimmelt (a Jewish reference)

Do you like your fershimmelt on wheat or rye?

I'm not a big "melt" fan (hate loathe "tuna melt") so I prefer my fershim on toasted soardough with lots of mustard.

The Topic of the Day...

I'm with you, DR MBarnum - "The Geisha Boy".

Alas, a specific Dean Martin nor Martin & Lewis movie comes to mind right now.

Good morning (or whatever time of day it is your corner of the world). It's lovely outside - a touch of fall in the air. It's nice to get a hint of the season in LA. I miss that gorgeous fall look from my days in Toronto and Boulder. But I must say, it's great never - or hardly ever - to be cold.
That's it for the weather report.

Food report - My Rosh Hashanah meal last night consisted of pretzels, Granny Smith apple rings from Trader Joe's and red licorice. Not the usual meal for the occasion - but quite yummy.
Okay - must clean off my desk and floor around the desk (aka the filing cabinet) so that the cleaning lady -- the same one that bk maintains has an Evil Eye -- but I'm here to tell you that she's very nice and has never looked at me with even a hint of evil -- comes over after she finishes at his place.

RE: The Edison Hotel - I like the Edison too.  It was the first place I stayed on my first "real trip" to NYC - one of those "Backstage on Broadway" high school trips.  It's a very classic NYC hotel, and the management have continued to upgrade and upkeep the rooms over the years.  -I still remember sleeping on a mattress that had a piece of wood paneling as a bed board on that first trip - not so any more.  However, my favorite value in midtown is still The Skyline over at 50th and 10th, although, they're no longer quite the secret nor the value they used to be.  -However, rooms there in January are still shockingly "cheap".

Thanks, DR Cillaliz! The water's fine, so I do indeed intend to stick around for a while. I am loving these insights to musical theatre that I can get with very few others here in Atlanta. Good luck with your auditions...you seem to be quite multi-talented! Are there any roles for singing female lawyers, like in Chicago or something? Then you could meld some of your facets!!

Thanks for the tip on The Skyline! Good to know as a backup!

The Edison is just a block or two away from where I work when I'm there for longer periods. We do a lot of our mixing at Sound One,which is in the historic Brill Building. The doormen there are pretty vigilant, but it's worth going in to admire the art deco brass elevator doors. Gorgeous!

I saw Cabaret in NY a few years back, with Marion Ross & Tom Bosley and Neil Patrick Harris as the master of ceremonies. I didn't know he had such talent for musical theatre. He was just great! I wasn't impressed with Debbie Gibson as Sally Bowles...I guess I have trouble seeing anyone but Liza Minelli in that role!

I cried at the end, too, but didn't require medical attention...

Must be lots of ghosts in the Brill Building!

That is REALLY WEIRD that you say that, because the last time I worked there, the director SWORE she saw a ghost...a tall, thin, African America man.

I decided that it was one of the Drifters, because I'd been told that the song "Up of the Roof" was written @ the Brill Building. (They have a wonderful rooftop terrace where we go to chill out and get some light.)

Seriously---check out the elevator doors!

Hey, thanks for all your good wishes, kidz!!! I'm really looking forward to this! Well, all except the Math 100 class... that's been put off for awhile, until I can lull myself into a false sense of security.

Jose - I don't know if I'd remember Walter Charles... the name seems a bit familiar... ask him if he knows me?

I'm gonna be so jealous of the NY festivities y'all are about to have together! Have a nice bowl chicken soup at Artie's for me!! Give my regards to Broadway...

DR PENNYO is a coed!

She's also what we called, when I worked in academia, a MRS - Mature Returning Student.  My absolute favorite kind of student, because they were so motivated.  All the best, DR PennyO.  Think of the graduation partay we'll have here at HHW!

TOD:

I've never seen a Martin/Lewis film.

Fav solo Martin:  RIO BRAVO, though I'm fond of CAREER too...I don't know why...

Fav solo Lewis...I remember liking THE NUTTY PROFESSOR when I was young...I also like that one he did with DeNiro and Sandra Bernhardt.
