My brother's visiting today, so I need to hop off here for now and get cleaned up.

This is DR JRAND56 and it is NOT DR MBARNUM.   That is all.

In answer to that question....of course I think that Miss Jayne Mansfield was divoon and was the REAL second string MM.  The Misses Van Doren and Lansing were pretty far down the line quality movie wise....while Jayne did have a few "A" films built around her so to speak.

Favorite Jayne - Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?
Favorite Mamie - Teacher's Pet or College Confidential
Favorite Lansing - Her appearances on The Beverly Hillbillies

I listen to Enya music for relaxation.....or Guy Haines.....  The music of Josh Groban is also helpful at times.

Since when do you get off rehearsal for your birthday???!!!!

I was thinking the very same thing!

For a funeral, I would cut him some slack, if it was someone close to him, but a birthday???

I have never even taken off a sick day (it's hard to justify it when you freelance!) since I've been editing...I just do my best to keep my germs to myself. Even the morning the guy totalled my car, I was at work by 11. I've bailed on jobs twice...when my father had to undergo emergency surgery, and when my 20 year old cat died. I was back at work the next day but it took me a long time to be able to talk about him without crying.

I take a capsule called "Immunity" which is a formula made from mushrooms---not the hallucinogenic variety--- and it keeps me from catching whatever's going around in post-land, where germs are easily spread because everyone it operating the same machines.

Gee---that post became all about ME!

And the word of the day is: CRABWISE!
Casey would waltz
In a CRABWISE direction
With a strawberry blonde
While the band furtively snuck in bites of a shellfish concoction the kitchen had thrown together.

I loaned my sister Paula my Hick Hop CD...

Thanks for the DRS report DR EDISAURUS....interesting.

We can only hope the actor as musician trend will end soon, DR BEN.  High hopes....high hopes.  Otherwise Liberace could have starred in COMPANY.

Here's what I wrote to a friend who asked about Company:

I saw the show last night. I have to report that I'm disappointed. Raul is OK in the role of Bobby but I didn't much like the production. I'm tired of the concept of stripping down the musical to beyond the bare bones. It comes off like a concert and some of the staging is silly and robotic. Raul didn't play any instrument until the beginning of Being Alive. He then he played a bit of piano, stopped and someone else took over and he walked to center stage with a spotlight and sang. Being Alive should be a defining moment in the show but it came off like a cabaret number, well done, but not connected to the show at all. I'm not sure what all the fuss was about in Cincinnati. This is supposed to be the same production with the same cast but I'm not impressed. Barbara Walsh, who was in Falsettos has been very good in other things. Knowing her work I thought she would be good as Joanne (the Elaine Stritch role) but it's not working. Her drunk scence is not grounded in anything. It's not believable or funny or sad or much of anything.

It's really too bad because Company has a wonderful score and it's a great show but you wouldn't know it from this production. I don't know if the critics will give it the same raves it got in the summer or if they will see it differently.

I doubt that it will be the hit that Sweeney was. It was on the half-price ticket booth and I had a TDF ticket. I was in the rear mezzanine (it's the Balcony people!) and many people around me either left or moved to different seats at intermission. I know that some of the people around me were not impressed either. Some moved but many left. Too bad.

Believe it or not, I fell asleep about 6 minutes before the end of "Lost"...when I opened my eyes, "The Nine" was starting.

Sigh.

I went to bed.

Of course, I had 10 years to work up to that conclusion when, at age 40, I needed "near-vision" lenses in my glasses and suddenly acquired hypertension that needed "controlling."

I enjoyed every bit of "Lost" that I saw.  I thought it funny that they introduced (sorta) two new characters -- a man and a woman -- and wanted us to believe they'd always been there.  They had some funny dialogue.

It reminded me of the season 1 episode when a group went off in search of dynamite and a man we'd never seen before went with them and dogged Hurley about being the only one on the island not losing weight.

He, of course, exploded.  It was gruesomely funny!

DR MATTH - sometimes I put on a clean shirt for my brother as well.

Well, in my case, I hadn't been out of the house for two days, so I hadn't shaved and looked frightful (especially now that Halloween is over).

DR Ron, you can go to ABC.com and watch the show (LOST) for free. Just a suggestion.

I'm up, I'm up, trying to be up enough to jog before heading over to Vinnie's - we'll see.

Re the birthday - to be fair, it was his 21st birthday and apparently the birthday trip and celebration with his family had been planned for six months with airfare purchased and before we'd set our schedule.

Ben - regarding calling a balcony a balcony: IIRC, the theaters with three levels used to call the upper levels Balcony and 2nd Balcony.  But that was long ago, and I think that once "they" decided to charge as much for most of the rear mezzanine as they do for the orchestra, the parlance switched to the nicer-sounding word "mezzanine."  The word sounds more welcoming than the harsh-sounding "balcony."  But you're right, it IS what used to be called the balcony, no matter how you look at it - it's just marketing.

I suspect it would take a very brave Charles Isherwood at the NY Times to reverse his opinion on the Doyle COMPANY.  This is, I believe, the first show to actually come in to NYC based on an Isherwood NY Times rave for its out of town incarnation, and Isherwood would be diminshing his own power in the business by suggesting that his out of town raves have no reliability.  OTOH, maybe Brantley will review the Broadway production.

Having seen COMPANY several times and having played Harry in an (I thought) excellent production, I'm not sure I'd have any interest in seeing this incarnation.

I haven't seen either of my brothers (who live in Minnesota) for almost two years but I do have a clean undershirt and button down shirt on today because I'm at work.
