I did yard work until the cold, windy rainstorm started, then came home and took a hot shower and finished "Benjamin Kritzer". Now I'm all weepy and can't stop crying! I was enjoying it so much but the ending just hit me in the gut, especailly because I moved so much as a child and the whole sense of loss came flooding back. I will return when I'm more composed...

We had this absolutely beautiful day today, couldn't have been clearer or more gorgeous. At some point this evening, I looked out the window, and I realized it's been raining for hours. Here it is close to 11:30, and it's still raining.

I had a mostly Rodgers and Hammerstein evening for myself tonight.

I began with the new DVD issue of CAROUSEL. Looked just wonderful. And due to the anamorphic encoding on this transfer, all the aliasing that happened on the old disc in the checkered pants and striped shirts was nowhere to be seen. It's a sharp, clean transfer. I didn't think the color was vibrant. It's saturated and rich, but it seems pretty flat in this DVD. But not having watched the old disc is awhile, maybe the color didn't sparkle in that either.

I watched the "Making of Carousel" on the second disc. It gave the background on how R&H came to write the stage version, and what changes they made from LILIOM (with clips from the movie that's also on the disc).

Sad to say, not one word in this documentary about the making of the film version of CAROUSEL. All that interesting stuff about the casting of Frank Sinatra and his walking off the picture after doing costume and makeup tests and prerecording the score was nowhere on this disc. In order to get the background on the making of the film, one will have to watch the documentary THE SOUND OF MOVIES narrated by Shirley Jones. That was disappointing.

After putting away CAROUSEL, I pulled the Julie Andrews version of CINDERELLA off the shelf. I hadn't watched it in some time, and I enjoyed it all over again. Even in the cramped spaces of that theater turned into a TV studio, the show just glows.

I probably saw this (like most of the rest of the US) when it first aired, but I have no memory of it. The Lesley Ann Warren version is the one I grew up watching and loving, and I do find it just the slightest bit more romantic. Julie, of course, does sing circles around Lesley. How ironic they both worked together on VICTOR/VICTORIA so many years later.

I watched the excellent "Making of" documentary on the CINDERELLA disc. How I wish they could have located a color film version of the broadcast. How short-sighted they were back then.

I ended my evening finishing the CSI: MIAMI episode I had begun this afternoon. It was a good introduction to the continuing threat of the Malle Noche gang that was present all season

Back from signing, which was so much fun - about twelve people in attendance, and the reading went very well, books were sold and cake was eaten. Rehearsal was fun - today I just got to watch while the kids learned their tap choreography, which is very cute. I must now eat.

Today was a day of purchasing, removing, moving and installing door knobs. I went to The Home Depot and bought a bunch of door knobs for my new place (it'll be a while before I can install them), and then I went to my sister's house and removed all the brass door knobs from that house and installed them in the house that she's selling (they're only three years old and still quite nice). Then I had to install all new door knobs (actually, these were more decorative door handles) in the house she lives in and is not selling.

I spent way too much time on my knees!

Now I'm at home and need to watch the last two episodes of "Ugly Betty" and "Grey's Anatomy." I don't think that I'll be able to watch all four episodes tonight...as much as I'd like to. I also have several things on the DVR that I need to watch and then delete, but since my sister requires my assistance tomorrow (and it's not optional

), I'll be busy then, too.

It was the first TV station I ever went to in person (went there to pick up an LP I won in some call-in contest—by a band called Arms Akimbo).

I don't think that I've ever watched any UHF channels...just 2-13 and then we got VCRs where you could get the higher channels, but they weren't UHF.
