Hiya, gang.

Sheesh, whatta quarter I'm having. Papers, exams, projects, quizzes, and the marathon weekends for the masters degree... I have come to a conclusion... henceforth, I use ONE, count'em, ONE criterion for any pursuit: If I had a year to live, would I be doing THIS?

Anyhow, I'll be finishing up the quarter, then do finals. Then not register for Winter quarter at Cal State. I am reminded why I didn't do "college" forty years ago. Still, I am glad I at least checked it out. Don't wanna be sitting in my rocker at 93, wondering if I shoulda "gone for that degree..."

I do want to continue in the Spiritual Psych masters program, the marathon weekends and all - and I can do that for the whole 2 year program, for a certificate of completion instead of a Master's Degree. I would certainly be deeply immersed in this course of study, if I had a year to live.

Yesterday I took a break and took a walk. First time in weeks. A walk... It was glorious - happened quite by accident. I had destroyed a tire on my car, and had to find time yesterday morning to take it to Costco and buy 2 new tires... Okay, lady, it'll be about 3 and a half hours... YIKES!! But I have homework! Oh, well, I'll walk along the Venice canals and out on the pier, watch seagulls, BREATHE. Wonderful.

So that's the news - I have missed y'all...

I'm playing hookey today, in order to write the three papers due this week, and study for the two exams tomorrow and one on Thursday... back to work. Hope to check in later, gators.

FJL, I will be attending opening night of the Brain along with Ms. Laurie Mitchell and Ms. Diana Darrin.

I also am planning to attend the Saturday night show as I do believe there is to be an HHW get together afterwards of some sort. Isn't that correct BK?

Shayne (or anyone who's attending), the reservation line for Brain tix is 323-664-ARTS (2787) or you can just let me know and I'll start a list.

TOD:

The films of Toshiro Mifune are ones that I discovered way late. I have been a fan of all things Japan, but for some reason had never seen a Toshiro Mifune film before...well, after seeing him in the film SCANDAL I am now a huge fan of his! What an actor! What a man!

And Bollywood films I discovered late in life as well. India has been making films for nearly 100 years and it has only been in the last 3 years that I found out about them, thanks to BKs mentioning of the wonderful film GUMNAAM. JRand56's insistance that I watch the Meena Kumari film PAKEEZAH only added fuel to the fire!  ;D

This week's The Broadway Radio Show (if you don't listen, you're really missing out on the best Internet radio show) features the storyboard artist for the upcoming Dreamgirls film - check it out!

It looks like, as between the Sat. Dec. 9th performances, HHW-ers are gravitating towards the Saturday night.   So if they'll allow the change, I'll call the reservations line and change Skip and my Brain matinee tickets to the evening.

... and I'll start a list.

Beware the List Maker!

KoKo (For bk, however, all of them would be missed)

Joe McCarthy (But bk will not keep his list a secret)

HUAC Black List (bk has the question ready: "Have you every planned, or do you now plan, on being a member of the Audience for The Brain From Planet X".

David Letterman (10 reasons why I'm going to Planet X"

der Brucer

(Expecting "jousting" comments from Barnum, Titanic quips from JRand, and excruciating "Franz" puns from FJL)

They won't have a prob.  Haven't heard from MusicGuy recently, but we'll all have a gathering post-performance that evening, but MusicGuy was also talking about doing a pre-matinee breakfast, which I'm also very up for.

well, one more down!  This score is a lot of fun, although God alone knows how BK will react to what I'm doing to his music.

I listen to his CD, mark up my score, decide what and where to go with it, think about the characters attitudes, and run.  The frustrating part of doing a show at a distance of 5000 miles is that you cannot stroll into rehearsal and watch or listen for inspiration or ideas.  some of my best ideas on the recordings with BK came from listening to him in rehearsal.

Oh, well . . .

Pre-matinee breakfast?

I can probably convince myself to get up early enough for that.

Speaking of Dreamgirls...is anyone else worried about it?
I mean, why Beyonce, when there's Audra McDonald (who's played Deena before)? And blah-blah-blah about ticket sales...I read an article that mentioned that the director was a little shy about casting her at first. And everyone loves Audra (or they should).

I am very excited about DREAMGIRLS....but then again....I was very excited about A CHORUS LINE as well....with more reservations than I have about DREAMGIRLS...(Richard Attenborough?  Michael Douglas?)

Time will tell, DR SINGING NYMPH...

RE: last night's DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES.

.
.
.

I'm curious about something re: the shooting last week.  DR MattH speculated that what happened would really impact the show (nora's death). Yet last night they did not show lynnette being at all upset by things. She was worried about one son. But they did not show any guilt or remorse.  Plus little kayla was off at grandma's house.

So does this mean kayla will not be seen (we assumed she would move in with lynnette and family)? I'm almost wondering if the writers realized how much the viewers hated the whole nora storyline and are now going to pretend that it did not happen.

My favorite show of the night was TAR.  But i can see why DR MattH likes BROTHERS & SISTERS. IT has gotten much better every week.
