Don't we keep the show rolling here?!

Well, bk wants the "home fires burning", so a little transatlantic arson is called for.

Good heavens - you're an adult - you need no monitor!

One of my friends here did not manage to get a "round tuit" earlier this year.  His apartment was flooded from the apartment above.  Most of his possessions were destroyed.  (He was not at home when the flooding happened).   The "round tuit" may not have stopped the water damage but it would have made the recovery process less painful.

Yes...people have been telling me their horror stories.  I do realize that, all things considered, I am VERY fortunate to not have had any damage to my belongings, only the wall and carpet. :-\

The good news is that your state has a generous Small Claims Court limit of $4000.

Can you get a statement from your inspector placing blame on the neighbor's pipes?

George, I am surprised you could get a mortgage without having homeowners insurance. I thought mortgage companies required it.

The way that it was explained to me was that "homeowner's insurance" that's required for home purchases is mainly to cover the entire building from damage...water, fire, whatever...because the bank owns the building unit it's paid off and since it's a condo and I don't own the entire building, just the inside walls and my belongings, that specific kind of insurance isn't needed.  The Home Owner's Association dues have the coverage if anything happens to the whole (or outside of the) building.  What I need is renter's insurance that also covers internal damage and repair.

This has actually been in the back of my mind.  My sister's boyfriend had the presence of mind to take pictures, but I wouldn't know how to tell if they're good enough to show if there was shoddy workmanship to begin with.

I am glad I have renters insurance. You need it now adays. Many of the landlords run slum apartments and you really have to be on your toes in Fargo when one is renting. Some property management operations are really bad news.

I'm playing with my new IE7 tonight. Not sure if I like it better, I was really used to the old format.  I wasn't sure about downloading it, but I set a restore point and so far so good

In my job, I use a couple of important website databases that have specified that their programs are NOT yet compatible with IE7!  Our whole library system can't switch over (which they eventually plan to do) until those few sites have been made compatible.

If the water soaking your carpet came from the neighbor's pipe he is liable, whatever the cause of the leak (if he want's to place he blame on some pluber or other, that's his problem).

Note - I'm no lawyer, but I suspect I'm right on this one.
