Good morning all -
Sorry I have been so errant and truant again as of late. Busy times up at LACC -- having just finished The Brain, all of my attention went into my week of finals and prepping for auditions for the one-act I will be directing in February. Needless to say, all went well -- but it was just a long week to schlog through it all.
Finals were great, albeit anticlimactic. Everything happened so fast, there was hardly time to realize what was going on until around 5:30 last night. It was great watching the first and second years step up to the plate and put up some really nice work. Maybe I am just getting more attentive in my old age, or having my inner director awakened, but I was able to appreciate watching the finals more this year than I have in the past.
The third year Shakespeare finals (which I was most certainly a part of) seemed to go very well. This year they tried to keep each signature roles' contribution together -- which I think possibly helped the audience a little bit in terms of keeping the out-of-context scenes and monologues together, but it certainly left myself a bit bored, since I was the first signature role up. I performed selections from Henry IV, Part I as Hal -- with Brain castmate/classmate Grady as my Falstaff. All in all, a decent experience, given the pressure our class felt at different times during the semester.
Auditions and call-backs for the one acts went well -- and I think each director (again, the third year students...myself included) managed to obtain a cast that they are happy with. I know that I am very excited, though a tiny bit nervous, about the whole process that begins on January 4th. So, continued One-Act vibes for all of us involved.
Yet, in the immediate future, I am heading back to Arizona tomorrow morning to see friends and family, so travel vibes would be appreciated for any and all of us that will be braving the roads, air, and sea here soon. Hope all have a very happy holidays and a really nice New Year!
