Well I saw the thing comin' out of the sky
It had the one long horn, one big eye.
I commenced to shakin' and I said "ooh-eee"
It looks like a purple people eater to me.

It was a one-eyed, one-horned, flyin' purple people eater.
One-eyed, one-horned, flyin' purple people eater
A one-eyed one-horned, flyin' purple people eater
Sure looks stange to me.

Somewhere, someday
We'll be close together, wait and see
Oh by the way,
This time the dream's on me

You take my hand
and you look at me adoringly
But as things stand
This time the dream's on me

It would be fun
To be certain that I'm the one
To know that I, at least, supply the shoulder you cry upon

To see you through
Till you're everything you want to be
It can't be true, but
This time the dream's on me

*I have very fond memories of dancing in the kitchen to Ella Fitzgerald's rendition.  :)

Rollin', rollin', rollin'
Though the streams are swollen
Keep them dogies rollin'
Rawhide!
Rain and wind and weather
Hell-bent for leather
Wishin' my gal was by my side.
All the things I'm missin',
Good vittles, love, and kissin',
Are waiting at the end of my ride

Move 'em on, head 'em up
Head 'em up, move 'em on
Move 'em on, head 'em up
Rawhide
Count 'em out, ride 'em in,
Ride 'em in, count 'em out,
Count 'em out, ride 'em in
Rawhide!

Roll up the plains
There's too much view for me
There's so much space between
The waiting heart, and whispered word
It's never heard

One room will do for me
Where every evening I can stare
At someone smiling from his chair
Across the floor
A million miles away behind the door

I was born under a wanderin’ star
A wanderin’ wanderin’ star

Mud can make you prisoner
And the plains can bake you dry
Snow can burn your eyes
But only people make you cry
Home is made for comin’ from
For dreams of goin’ to
Which with any luck will never come true

When you're way up high, and you look below
At the world you've left and the things you know,
Little more than a glance is enough to show
You just how small you are.

When you're way up high, and you're on your own,
In a world like none that you've ever known,
Where the sky's like lead, and the earth's like stone,
You're free to do whatever pleases you.
Exploring things you'd never dared,
'Cause you don't care,
When suddenly there's
A big, tall, terrible giant at the door.
A big, tall, terrible lady giant sweeping the floor.
And she gives you food, and she gives you rest.
And she draws you close to her giant breast.
And you know things now, that you never knew before.
After the sky.

I'm up to the point in the Cukor biography where he's the stage manager of the Empire Theatre. There is a lot about the book I'm not remembering, and facts I know now about people that I didn't know when I first read the book, so it's a nice rediscovery.

I watched THE MATADOR tonight with Pierce Brosnan playing a hit man reaching a mid-life crisis and Greg Kinnear as the everyman who becomes his only friend. Kind of simple and sweet. Some laughs and, once again, thankfully not overlong for the story the writer/director is telling.

Careful the things you say,
Children will listen.
Careful the things you do,
Children will see.
And learn.
Children may not obey,
But children will listen.
Children will look to you
For which way to turn,
To learn what to be.
Careful before you say,
"Listen to me."
Children will listen.

LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT featured Doris Roberts as a matriarch of a powerful New York family with children and grandchildren operating behind her back doing, in some cases, some nefarious and even murderous things. D.W. Moffett and Richard Kind played her two sons. Very surprising murderer in this one.

Nothing's gonna harm you, not while I'm around.
Nothing's gonna harm you, no sir, not while I'm around.

Demons are prowling everywhere, nowadays,
I'll send 'em howling,
I don't care, I got ways.

No one's gonna hurt you,
No one's gonna dare.
Others can desert you,
Not to worry, whistle, I'll be there.

Demons'll charm you with a smile, for a while,
But in time...
Nothing can harm you
Not while I'm around...

Finished the evening with the new Courtney Cox drama DIRT on FX. Again, not terrible enough to make me tune out yet but certainly not the heart-stopping grand dramas that THE SHIELD and RESCUE ME are.

I mean, watching her use a vibrator a couple of times and having the word "bu**sh*t" exclaimed a couple of times is about as dramatic as the show has yet gotten. I still find some of the characters interesting and will continue watching for another week or two.

As long as he needs me
I know where I must be
In spite of what you see
I'm sure that he needs me.

TV commercial rant:

By far the most offensive ad I've seen in recent months is that U.S. Army ad with the father and son...the crusty old guy (shown in closeup) and his puddin'-faced son (also shown in closeup).

The father says:  "Yesterday, when you got off the bus, you did two things you've never done before:

"You looked me square in the eye, and you shook my hand.

"Where'd that come from?"

And puddin'-faced boy just absorbs "the moment" as a rite of passage.

Each time I see it, I yell out to the old man:

HE SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN IT FROM YOU, YOU MORON!

WHY DIDN'T HE?

The U.S. Army, for all it does and doesn't do, is not a substitute for the proper way for a man to greet another man...especially when that other man is your dad.

It sickens me every time I see it.

Rant over.
And not every father is smart enough to teach these things to his son.

Get over it.

You put your left hand in.
You take your left hand out.
You put your left hand in
and you shake it all about.
You do the hokey pokey
and you turn yourself around.
That's what it's all about.

You just can't beat a classic.
Oh, yes!!!

Have you heard of this product called Head On.  You apply it directly to the forehead!  :P
I'm waiting for them to put out a diet pill.

They can call it Ass Off.

The Lord is good to me
And so I thank the Lord
For giving me
The things I need
The sun, the rain, and an apple seed
The Lord is good to me.

Time to wuss.

I got a call, asking me to come in earlier than scheduled.  One of my co-worker's mother is having surgery tomorrow, and she needed help covering her time.

And vibage.

I'm home, I'm home from an average day
I'm home, I'm home from a day of play
I'm home, I'm home did I slam the door?
I'll try not to do it any more.

Mama Mia was great!  I'm so used to bad touring shows here that it was a total treat to see talent. And it is such a fun show.

Jose, I said hi to Emily for you, she says hi. Every time I got close to the pit Bill had just walked away, but Emily said she mentioned it to him.

(verse)
Maybe I'm old-fashioned, feeling like I do
Maybe I am living in the past
But when I meet the right one
I know that I'll be true
My first love will be my last

(chorus)
When I fall in love, it will be forever,
Or I'll never fall in love.
In a restless world, like this is
Love is ended before it’s begun
And too many moonlight kisses
Seem to cool in the warmth of the sun.

When I give my heart it will be completely
Or I'll never give my heart
And the moment I can feel that you feel that way too
Is when I'll fall in love with you

Another hundred lyrics just flew out of my brain
As I stand here on stage
With another hundred lyrics that I'll never recall
And on every damn page
There's another hundred lyrics that'll drive me insane
Right in front of you all, cause the words are a pain
Not to mention the sprawl of the melody.
