The entire nation is under a deep freeze.  Are the Cassadines playing with Carbonic Snow again?

Amazon is actually running a deal now for all five seasons of '24' for $124, so for fans who want to relive some of the shows great seasons, that's VERY inexpensive, and I'd say at their best (seasons 1, 4, and 5), it's superior to any action movie I've seen in the past few years for thrills, surprises, stunts, and acting.

I began my eveing with the Blu-ray version of MISSION IMPOSSIBLE III. As poor as the standard defintion DVD of the movie was (plugged up, pasty color, aliasing abounding particularly in the Vatican scenes with the walls and the steps), the Blu-ray disc is a marvel - beautiful, saturated color, rock solid images without the twitter in the SD version, amazing clarity. You could see the pores in all the actors' faces uin close-up, some make-up for blood and bruises seemed phony because of the increased clarity. Really, a reference quality HD disc.

I did watch the two hours of IDOL tonight and I probably will tomorrow, but I'll pick and choose from other auditions. One reason I stuck with it tonight was that nothing new that I watch aired opposite it. L&O: CI and VERONICA MARS were reruns.

Of course, the producers focus on the bizarre and terrible only allowing us an occasional person with some talent.

And there was one contestant, a male voice teacher (green shirt with a soul patch) that Randy took an instant dislike to and was as rude as he's ever been to a contestant. He could sing; yes, his vibrato was a little wide, but they all dismissed him outright as if he couldn't sing at all. Some people got passed through who weren't nearly as good as he was.

I also watched the new episode of DIRT tonight. Add another gay male character to prime time TV (Courtney Cox's brother), and once again, the show didn't shy away from showing him kissing another man (an action movie star in the closet) and the actor going down on his knees to show is the beginning of a sex scene.

I certainly wasn't expecting to see this! I guess I'll keep watching.

TOmorrow, I'll have BOSTON LEGAL and SVU to watch before settling in with some DVDs.

I also recorded TRAVELS WITH MY AUNT off TCM today. I haven't seen this movie in years, and I'm looking forward to seeing it tomorrow.

I feel great except that I've still got my cough from New Year's weekend.  I haven't have a cold hang on like this in over ten years.

Did I remember Dr. Jose saying this year's cold has been lasting three weeks to a month for many people?

DR FJL - Steve just got over his cold completely.  And he got sick the week before Christmas.  And Steve's doctor said he had been treating many lingering cases.  -This too shall pass.

Just had a lovely visit with my friend M'Lisa and her husband, and their two kids, Caitlyn and Shannon.  Caitlyn sang with Jessica Rush on the Stages bonus song.  Shannon is a doll - she's doing a book report on Benjamin Kritzer (and is in the middle of Kritzerland right now) and she wanted the CD of the five songs from that book.  We laughed and laughed and just when we thought we could laugh no more we laughed again.  I shall now try and finish a DVD.
