TOD:  I also remember a friend's parents who would grab us kids into their car and take off.  When any of us asked where we were going, the mother would turn her head and say, "We're going up Mike's ass, that's where we're going!"  That kept us quiet (which was the intention) when we were very young, but as my friend, his brother and I got older, we began to snap back with "Good thing I'm wearing a brown shirt" or "Are you returning the car from where you bought it, dad?"  The parents would generally laugh, or not, depending on the situation.

Dan the Man ~You so funny! ;D  Sounds like an episode from Malcolm in the Middle :D :D :D

This Thursday we have friends arriving from England. They will be here until Monday morning. We are having dinner on Friday and on Saturday they will make the trek out to Long Island for more dinner with Anthony's parents (and us, of course).

Re: Last night's episodes of "Desperate Housewives" and "Brothers and Sisters"

SPOILER

I thought last night's episode of each show was refreshing and funny.

"Desperate Housewives" -- what a hoot! Zach and Gaby!  Ian's wife finally moving on (??!!??).  Alma's drugging and raping of her ex, with the mother complicit.  And Lynnette and her hubby finally on the same page regarding the restaurant (although previews seem to promise serious discord).

"Brothers and Sisters" -- totally inspired, start to finish, I though.  Not a wrong note struck, not a wasted moment...no filler...total bliss.  IMO, of course.

DR Dan (the Man) - You're story reminded me of something that happened when I was about nine or ten years old.  I was having dinner over at my cousin's house, and my cousin was just playing with his food, not eating..

His mother "said", "Eat your dinner."
-But I'm not hungry right now.
"Children back home in the Philippines would fight over that food."
-NAME TWO?!?!?!

And I don't think I ever saw the his mother's hand moving in the air before it slapped him in the face.  -Maybe I felt the breeze, but... In any case...  *And, yes, he was slapped, but corporal punishment was still semi-acceptable at that time... -Well, that's a discussion for another time.  So...

After the initial "thwack", he started crying...and laughing at the same time.  Then I started laughing.  Then his sister started laughing.  his mother just rolled her eyes and gave us all looks of disgust.

Ah, youth!

Whoever said, "I lead a dog's life" must have had it pretty easy.  Most dogs I know sleep, eat, perform their bodily functions, and screw.  Hardly the worst of lives.

The auditions I played for this morning went very well.  All the "finalists" really stepped it up.  I was glad I got to leave room after everyone had gone.  I have a feeling a lot of discussion took place.  -Which is good - it's always nice to have options.

...And, thankfully, I didn't freak out when I found out who was going to be in the room this morning.  The casting director had mentioned the director would be there today when we met last week.  That's OK.  Then this morning before we started, he said the composer would be there.  Oh...  Then as people started to come in, I was introduced to them... The musical director... The book writer, "Hi, I'm Joe.  Nice to meet you, Jose."  So...  By the time everyone had arrived, sitting a few feet away from me at the table were:

Gabriel Barre (director), Patrick Vacariello (musical director), Joseph Stein ("Joe" - the book writer), and John Kander (composer)

Me? Nervous?

A little.

Whew!

So far the day is not quite as horrifying as it could have been, thanks to vibes and xylophones, so keep 'em coming and maybe by the end of the day things will be bettah.

Will do.  I almost passed on your greetings to Kander this morning anyway, but he was a bit under the weather - recovering from a cold - and he was keeping his distance from everyone to keep everyone else healthy.

WOW! :o

;D

...And my saving grace this morning was that I can never keep straight who wrote the music and who wrote  the lyrics: Kander or Ebb? Ebb or Kander?  This morning I was thinking Kander had written the lyrics, so...  I'm pretty sure that helped me not get too self-conscious about my playing.

Again... Whew!
