DR Jeanne - Which part of the country do you live in again?

*And if you'd like to come to New York City right now, it's about 75-80 degrees in my apartment.  -Which reminds me of an episode of "Laverne & Shirley" - Shouldn't it be raining in the doorway?  -Or some line like that.

There are about five circling now. They go over the house, then east.

It is the route DR Sandra took to preschool. Maybe someone tried to take her chef hat and she gave him what-for.

Didn't someone say here the other day that UNCHAINED MELODY was from a film? If so, which one?

A 50s film called UNCHAINED.

About an hour ago, DR GINNY.  And already people have forgotten how to drive in snow.  Scary.

TOD:
UNCHAINED MELODY (Could be from the '50's but I wasn't aware of it until the '60's)--my all-time favorite pop song.

The great Duke Ellington vocalist, Al Hibbler, had a chart topper version in 1955!

OracleBand

Quote
Written by Hy Zaret and Alex North for the 1955 movie "Unchained".  The movie starred Elroy (Crazy Legs) Hirsch and Barbara Hale (of Perry Mason fame)

Performed in the movie by Todd Duncan, (the original baritone in Gershwin's "Porgy & Bess")

An instrumental version of the song by Les Baxter in 1955 went to #1

Also in 1955 a version by Al Hibbler went to #3 on the charts.  Other artists charting with this song in 1955 included Roy Hamilton (#5), June Valli (#29)

Best known version today performed by The Righteous Brothers, who hit # 4 on the Top 40 charts in 1965

Harry Belafonte sang it at the 1956 Academy Awards.

My favorite is the Lettermen version of 1962

Oh, DR DER BRUCER, regarding "strighten" vs "straighten." That was a typo? I thought said ditz had an Australian accent. :)

Yes, of course - that is what I meant!

All right, put your thinking caps on - we need uptempo songs for Joan Ryan's show - she's very strange about uptempo songs and feels they're all corny - until we find one that I can do something with to make it okay.  So, let's have some uptempo songs - they have to be known, not too chestnutty (unless you love it) and some should be from shows.

DR JoseSPiano:  You asked a question last night that I've only just read (yes, I'm CAUGHT UP!).

I am someone who has begun ridding myself of those space-hog jewel cases...those dust-catching, shatter-at-a-glance UNprotective covers that CDs come in.

My solution: Aluminum CD megacases.  They come in different sizes, some holding 400-plus, others 500-plus, and the ones I have which hold 1,000-plus.  They are also available to hold a greater capacity (up to 2,000, I think).

At any rate, I have three of these cases that hold 1,000.  I also invested in gatefold polypropylene covers to preserve my inserts (they will also hold CDs, if you wish to get them for that purpose).  You can store a whole lot of these in the space a handful of jewel cases takes up.

First, here's what my cases look like (you can also get them with wheels and a pull-out handle, if you so desire):

Just getting rid of the jewelcases makes a HUGE difference in my small condo.  I shall soon be able to rid myself of my CD shelves...one holds 575, another holds 1,000 and two others are rotatable and hold about 750 CDs/DVDs each.

SPACE HOGS, all of them.

I stack my three aluminum cases...and they make a nice occasional table.

The excitement is over. A car was stolen and crashed nearby. Sandra's preschool and the nearby middle school were in lockdown. The bad guy was apprehended, according to the news, about a half mile from here.

Re:  "HEROES"

SPOILERS

I loved all the storyline segments.  I loved the entire episode.

I had a moment of disbelief upon the revelation that Nathan is Claire's father.  It didn't seem feasible because I presumed Nathan was only a couple of years older than Peter.  But clearly, Nathan is in his 30s. Assuming the thing between Nathan and Claire's mother was a youthful fling when he was between 18 and 20, then he's at least 33, but more probably his late 30s.  Which, actually, is closer to actor Adrian Pasdar's 41 years.

I never thought much about how old Peter might be, but his character could be anywhere between 20 and 29, so far as I know.  My initial thoughts were based on his appearance, and if any clues have been given about his intended age, I've ignored them up until now.

Anyway, it was a bitchin' episode.  I'm even enjoying the Nicki/Jessica story now that it isn't dominating each episode.
