"A Night at the Museum". I slept through about 15 minutes of it. The plot points were predictable ones we've seen a thousand times, but it's worth seeing for the visual effects. And they had very cool, tastefully done 3D head credits. (Sad when that is one of your favorite parts!) Nice old-school score by Alan Silvestri, too.

As you can imagine, the Grandlads had a good time - and they're learning to sit through credits, too!

Go ahead - take all the fun out it!

Vinegar water on the stove coming to a boil for Eggs Benedict.

They will served on smallish whole wheat bread toast ("smallish" whole wheat bread is what you get when you trim the mold off of regular whole wheat bread  - waste not, want not).

Good morning!

Another beautiful February morning: cold but sunny and clear. We missed all the bad winter weather that had been predicted for us earlier in the week. SHould be in the 50s today.

Wow, DR TCB! That's a pretty long run! Four weeks is the longest I've ever had for a show's run, and the last one of those - BIG RIVER -  was 15 years ago.

Very excited to read of DR Ron's potential jump into the HDTV waters. I think you'll find the water is fine once you get there. And the various cables and accessories you need to do the best possible hook-up for your equipment can be found for bargain prices at stores like Target and Wal-Mart and on Ebay. I've gotten HDMI cables of super quality from Ebay vendors for less than $10, the same quality cables places like Best Buy and Circuit City wanted $99 for!

For those of us who are watching and enjoying the GREASE show, just a reminder that it starts at 7 tonight and is another two hour show.

Also new episodes of DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, BROTHERS & SISTERS, ROME, and EXTRAS.

The Grammys are also on tonight, but I don't care a thing about them other than which show wins best cast recording.

I will finish THIRD MAN OUT today, and then I'm going to get to BREAKFAST ON PLUTO. After that, depending on the hour, I'll probably put in DO NOT DISTURB.

2 eggs over easy

The way I like them; however, I 'm a real spatula klutz, so I use a "trick": when the eggs are just about done, sunny side up, I put a tablespoon of water in the pan and pop on a lid - the quick burst of stem will cook the yolk tops in a jiffy.

Hmm, sounds interesting.  I'll have to try that the next time I indulge in eggs - maybe a month from now!

I'm about ready to close down this computer and head for LaGuardia.  My brother Randy called about thirty minutes ago to alert me as to how dreadful dad is looking.  Hospice has pretty much alerted my family that this is the week, and they've begun the pain medication.  We spent ten minutes sobbing over the phone to each other, just as DR PennyO and I did on Friday night, between discussion of estate, legal matters, and such pertinent matters.

Thank you all for your patience with me in dumping all of this on you.  It can only get worse from this point, so I will try from relaying TMI in the next few days.  Thank God I have work and great friends.

Okay!  I'm off to Ohio.  I'll next log in from there.  Keep those travel vibes coming.  And, please, keep my Dad in your prayers.

This might be fun:

MasterPiece Theatre: Dracula

Quote
Dracula
Airing Sunday, February 11, 2007 on PBS
(Check local listings; dates and times may vary)

Dark, sexy and fresh...

-- The London Observer

Seized with a powerful thirst, the Lord of the Undead stirs from his bed of Transylvanian dirt... Marc Warren (Band of Brothers) joins the ranks of the great screen Draculas with a performance as demonic as Bela Lugosi's (1931), as urbane as Christopher Lee's (1958), and as ominously sensual as Gary Oldman's (1992).

David Suchet (Poirot) stars as vampire scholar Dr. Abraham Van Helsing, an authority on the powers of garlic, crucifixes, and wooden stakes to combat these bloodsucking monsters. Also appearing are Sophia Myles (Art School Confidential, Marple) as Lucy Westenra, the chaste victim, and Stephanie Leonidas as Mina, who seems certain to follow her friend Lucy into the realm of the undead. Rafe Spall plays Mina's fiancé, Jonathan Harker; Dan Stevens is Lucy's new husband, Arthur Holmwood; and Tom Burke plays Dr. John Seward, Lucy's failed suitor and the attending physician during her horrible descent into vampirism.

...

I went to the plantation house next door to our house that we had hoped to live in (the one full of house parts now) because there was an "estate sale" now that the woman whose family had lived there for 5 generations has moved to her penthouse in The Loft. The developer was holding court with lots of little old ladies in the kitchen. I asked him what was to become of the house. He smugly said "I've scheduled a controlled burn for the end of the month." I'm sure he wanted me to take him seriously and get all scared. The old ladies thought that was a hoot. But he has done nothing to preserve this place since he bought it and it continues to deteriorate. (Our preservation group offered over market value to buy it, but the city gave some many incentives to the developer, including our tax money, no buffers and increased density for the land, that we could never have matched that.) Oh well...

New house! Gotta think about the NEW house!

Stories like this one really make my blood boil. Many of the communities that are letting their heritage go bye-bye depend on tourism. Tourists don't come to see the new, just-like-everything-else condos--they come to see the history and heritage.

Like you say, EDI, some battles can't be won. One must choose their battles.
