THE DODO BIRD

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were like the dodo bird - gentle, and not too smart, and now it is time for you to post until the dodo cows come home.

When I first glanced at the word of the day, I thought it was "SUPPOSITORY!" :o Then, I glanced at it again and thought it was "SUPERSUPPOSITORY!"  Then I actually read the word and realized that I had never heard of or read this word before in my life. ::)

What it means is:

adjective:
* going beyond the requirements of duty.
* greater than that required or needed; superfluous.
* Performed or observed beyond the required or expected degree.
* Superfluous; unnecessary: "It was supererogatory for her to gloat" (Mary McCarthy).

Bah humbug to Valentines Day.
It finally "arrived" here in Oz about 20 years ago and is just crass commercialism.

It was "cute" when I used to read about it in Peanuts comics. The hand made anonymous "Valentine" has a sweetness about it.

Today is Kim Novac's birthday. She was a funny valentine. (but always a delight)

Tuesday (Yay, it's a snow day!) morning greetings.  SW Ohio is a mess today, with snow, sleet, freezing rain.

As for sweetening the audience reaction for The Brain are there different one that one can purchase the applause and laughter from from I Love Lucy, The Mary Tyler Moore Show or Laverne and Shirley?

Good morning, all!  I believe tomorrow is Valentine's Day, and I believe our poor BK is overworked to have looked at the wrong calendar day!  BK, you need a vacation.  Today is, however, the18th birthday of my beloved goddaughter Charlotte Raines, and I shall call her later to send my love and birthday wishes.

Yes, the snow has begun, and this morning everything at Randy's is relatively quiet.  My dad is restless and Randy, with my fumbling aid, got my dad out of bed before he decided he wanted to return there.  I learned this morning that Jo Ann has been sleeping in Dad's room with him since he returned from hospital and that she was up and down all night long with his restlessness.  He keeps gesturning and scratching.  Regularly, he tried to get out of bed.  The pain is getting intense, and the medication renders him unconscous intermittently.

My nephew Matt has been out with the truck cleaning the driveway, and I've had the urge to run out and start a snowbll fight for some needed levity.

Was there a TOD?  I clearly missed it.  Perhaps I was too caught up in THE HEIRESS, a film I love.  The orchestration for the film score was done by Jerome Moross.

Re: last night's HEROES

SPOILERS

*
*

I really love this show!  But i have absolutely no idea who will die and I REALLY don't want to know.  I did not watch the previews for next week. Although i did hear the catch phrase, "someone will fly and someone will die". Cute!  I think the end of last night's show showed jessica hired to go after nathan. But i would be surprised if he died. To me the safe ones are: claire, peter, and hiro. Actually they are the only ones i care about.

I actually thought that maybe the person would die this week and it would be matt. But alas you can fall down many stories and still survive!

I am very much looking forward to next week. Should be a good one.

Yes Gale Storm has been widowed twice.  Her autobiography "I Ain't Down Yet" is very good.  It is available on EBAY all the time.

She talks frankly about her alcoholism and her struggle to overcome it.  She talks about her recording career and her abrupt decision to give it up when it took her away from her family in California (she recorded for Dot in Nashville and/or Chicago).  She wrote that she and her producer were just becoming too close.  Gale wrote that she understood how such an affair could happen, and that her marriage and family were much more important to her than a record, so she gave it up.

When romatically involved, I've been a sucker for the whole Valentine's Day scene.  But the only one that really stands out in my mind is the year I got frostbite on my nipples.

Good morning!

I hope those who are inundated with snow are doing OK, not losing power or heat or what have you.

We have a gray day here and much rain is in our forecast, but it hasn't started yet.

Yep, when I was involved in my two long-term relationships, I bought right into the Valentine's Day conspiracy: flowers, cards, candy, other gifts. We actually did more than one our respective birthdays. Only Christmas was bigger.

I have to say that I enjoyed it at the time, but I don't miss it now.

Words can't express how much I adore THE HEIRESS, every aspect of it.

Not only did Copland win an Oscar for his score, so did Edith Head and Gile Steele for their exquisite costumes, and the art/set direction. And, of course, DeHavilland rightly won for her performance.

Sorry, but I think Ralph RIchardson should have won the Oscar over Dean Jagger in TWELVE O'CLOCK HIGH, and I think the film was better than ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN, too, in retrospect. I have that film on DVD, and to be fair, I should probably pull it off the shelf and watch it again, but I don't think I'd change my mind.

Basil Rathbone played the father in the Broadway version and won a Tony Award for it. I wouldn't have minded seeing him reprise his role in the film either, though Richardson is perfection.

Drat! Another ACC basketball game preempts VERONICA MARS tonight! The station is showing it at 11:35, but it won't be in high definition, and that makes me very irritated.

We don't celebrate Valentine's Day on February 14. We celebrate Arizona's birthday.

Well, some celebrate the state --- I celebrate the arrival (in 1994) of the most unique, the smartest, the cutest, and the most wonderful gift from God, my nephew -- Wilson Arthur Hughes VanNess.  He is an Aquarian, so of course his birthday parties were always very themed, detailed, and planned.... by him of course, and with the help of his creative mother (another Aquarian).  Here is a picture from a couple of years ago, with Wilson being Luke Skywalker, and of course  me being a doting uncle, I sweltered away as Darth Vader.  Such fun!!

Finally we get to the Hollywood round on AMERICAN IDOL and we'll get a chance to see the best this season has to offer and not have to suffer through the obvious no-talent weirdos the show so loves to broadcast.

Also new episodes of HOUSE, BOSTON LEGAL, the LAW & ORDER shows and DIRT.

I hardly recognized you, DRMUSICGUY.

DR MATTH - I am assuming you meant ALL THE KING"S MEN and not ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN....   Mercedes McCambridge was fine in THAT film, but Miriam Hopkins was perfection - "Don't let your aunt come near me...."

WOW....yes, Basil Rathbone would have been terrific in the film.

I really had NEVER thought of it, but as MR BK writes, Joan Fontaine would have been wonderful.  Certainly she would have brought the mousy Catherine to life....and I love the scenes when she finally takes control of her life....still considering Ms Fontaine doing those....
