I am keeping my fingers crossed that Mr. Mailman will bring me a Valentine's Day present in the form of an Amazon package today. If not, it should be here tomorrow.

Great story, DR Cillaliz!

Twenty-two years ago today, I had a sonogram during which we heard (and saw) for the first time the heartbeat of our DS Rob.  Can't top that for a Valentine's Day memory.

Since genuine Southerners DRs MATTH and RLP have weighed in on the authenticity of Ms Olympia Dukakis' accent in the film version of STEEL MAGNOLIAS, I will stop complaining about it.

But I still don't like her line readings.

DR JRand, if you don't have anything nice to say about anyone....come sit by me!

Whew!  I just got a call from the casting office.  My audition is not until 2:30... I thought it might be earlier.  -And since I slept in today...

And re: last night's AMERICAN IDOL.

*
*

I really don't think they should cut people after one song. They should rate them and then let them sing again. But it would be nice if they showed us all our favorites from the audition shows.

And then they cut so many of the favorites. I loved that country girl baylie brown. Yes she forgot her lyrics. But i totally believe she would have been top 10.

And that bearded guy who was so good at auditions. They never even showed him sing last night.

Then there were many people who were good at auditions who seemingly got through last night (the indian brother, the guy who had a baby). Yet they did not even show them singing one note last night.

I'm really disappointed with them showing weeks and weeks of the crappy auditions and then we get one show for hollywood????

Oh and i totally agree with DR MattH. It is totally unfair that some people have never been seen before. America already has their favorites. And if a contestant has not been shown they will have  a much harder time.

Well... As for cutting people after one song... It happens all the time.  And, actually, since they had made it to Hollywood week, this was their second time singing.  And just like in a theatrical callback, the contestants had time to prepare for Hollywood week. Heck, they had weeks to prepare for their initial solo round.  If they weren't prepared, they weren't prepared.  Showbiz is just showbiz.

Now the editing of the show is a totally different matter... :-\

A little more AI talk ahead...

And as much as the producers edit down the preliminary rounds, I actually think seeing all of the auditions in their entirety would actually be quite "painful" and boring.  -Even with all the good auditions thrown in.  Even if "we" had had the opportunity to see all the Top 40 contestants sing their songs in their entirety, that would just make for one long, and inevitably confusing evening of TV.  There would just be too many people and songs to remember, to keep track of.  And the producers would also run the risk of having some less stellar auditions finishing out the evening - if they showed everyone in the order they originally sang.

And when it comes down to it, it's all about getting people to watch the show.  The ratings.  And people are definitely watching.  Even moreso this season.

I have a few friends who don't start watching the show until the live rounds start since that is truly when the competition starts.  Yes, it's fun to see the prelims, but that's what they are, prelims.

Jo has the feeling that today he will die, and this morning I held his hand, told him I loved him, that I would take care of his estate as he wished it, not let the Macbeths pull any crap, and that he had my permission to die.  I don't know if he heard me, but I feel better for telling him that.

DR ELMORE,
I think you are doing the right things.

A few days before my dad passed away he told me that he was hanging on for my benefit. I had agonized over losing him, but at this point his life was just misery. I told him it was all right, to go whenever he was ready, thanked him for all he'd done for me, and told him that I loved him. He nodded, and I knew he was relieved.  That turned out to be our last conversation.

I send you STRENGTH and LOVE and PATIENCE. I note, too, that you have not lost your sense of humor, and that alone can help you through.
