I have cross country skis, but haven't really used them much. I did a lot of downhill skiing as a kid, but I haven't done that in years

Who knew that Cantinflas was so ahead of his time?

He certainly thought that his backside was hilarious, especially when moving in several different directions, and decorated with a tassal.

Funny to see Jack Lemmon in color in one of his SOME LIKE IT HOT outfits.  ;D

And Janet Leigh's sequined dress was a wow!  And it was nice to see Michael Callan doing dancing a LOT like he must have done as Riff on Broadway - although choreography for The Rumble is credited to Eugene Loring.

In fact, I guess the only think I really didn't like in the movie was Saggy Flas.   :P

Did I miss something, or is the hot air ballooning talk in honor of Cantinflas?

I had a skateboard for about 2 minutes back when I was a kid in the mid 70s.

Made a parachute jump on my 40th birthday.  NEVER NEVER NEVER plan on doing it again, on purpose.

DR JMK, the Reverse Speech site is spooky.  Who knew that Judy Garland and Marilyn Monroe where singing out their subliminal thoughts all these years.

I remember my cousin, Richard, and I freaking ourselves out one night when we started checking out some of the "hidden messages" in some classic albums.  -We were about 10 or 11 years old.  The Eagles' "Hotel California", "Stairway to Heaven", a couple of Beatles albums, some Rush albums...  In retrospect, I know we got to the point where we were just starting to hear things because we wanted to hear things...  I mean, we started to put Journey and REO Speedwagon on the turntable...  :P

I see a LOT of people but not a LOT of posts.

I have been at DR Richard's computer, helping him understand the finer points of the Oxford English Dictionary online.

Well, I shall be errant and truant for the next couple of hours.   I'm playing some auditions this afternoon, and then I'm meeting a friend to catch a movie - probably "Pan's Labyrinth".

"sporting hobbies"

are a matter of definition.

I used to compete nationally in Duplicate Bridge Tournaments; scientific studies have shown that a Tournament Duplicate Bridge player burns more calories in a match than does a surgeon during an open-heart operation - the game is more stressful!

Called Best Buy, but they don't carry the lamps at the store, they mail it to you - seven to ten business days.  I've called several stores, but only one has the lamp and it's on hold for a customer who may or may not want it.  I'll just call Mitsubishi tomorrow and order it and have them get it to me pronto.

At the Naval Academy we were required to participate in extra-curricula athletics.

(I could usually find an exemption):

Forensics (I coached debating and performed in intercollegiate Individual events: Original Oratory and Dramatic Interpretation)

Musical Theatre (I wrote the book and lyrics for our annual full length original musical comedy show)

Year Book (Literary Editor) - The year-book preface is my two-page 11 stanza blank verse dedication.

College bi-weekly Magazine - assistant advertising director

Occasionally I got stuck:
Knockabout sailing (low sweat factor)

Cross Country (the coach was always angry when I smoked while running training laps). At the end of one meet, after I crossed the finish line I picked up speed as I sprinted the seven blocks to the off campus college dorm where my girl friend lived; the coach seemed to feel that this suggested I had not given my all to the race!

Wow!  I thought, for a moment, that my computer was having a TWILIGHT ZONE moment.  I received an e-mail offering me special prices for advanced tickets to see THE WHO'S TOMMY.  I thought I had fallen through some sort of time continuum.  Turns out the offer was not for Broadway, but for an upcoming production at The Village Theatre in Issaquah, Washington.

* If that theatre sounds familiar to you, it may be because it was the recent home of THE LAST STARFIGHTER as part of it's New Musical Festival

** BTW (By the way in internet lingo), Fred and Skip and BK, I love that CD!

RE bk's projection television lamp:

so in that regard, these newer TVs are much advanced from their predecessors, not to mention the larger screens, lightness in weight compared to those heavy models with a bulky picture tube, sharpness and density of picture elements, etc.

And the fact that you can swap out your own lamp is pretty incredible. How many of us could plunder into the back of old TVs and replace anything?

Well, Bruce is a pretty amazing guy '>.<'
I don't think his tv is THAT old though......

My Mom was a Life Master and beat both Omar Sharif and Bruce Geller in different national tournaments.  I was enscripted into indentured servitude as a teenager to caddy regional tournaments.  This was decades before no smoking laws came into being, and I can attest that a lot of the calorie consumption was due to nicotine--you literally could not see neighboring tables at times due to the intense cigarette smoke.  Quadruple oy.  :)
