And as for last night's HEROES.

SPOILERS

*
*
*

I must say i love their tag lines. And last night's "someone will fly, someone will die". Was no exception. And they did a great job of keeping their options open right till the end.  Claire's mom was hurt.  Claude (invisible guy) was hurt.  Plus that woman that could hear the loud sounds died (and that made me wonder if she was gonna be the one). I would not have been happy about that since we did not know her.  But what a great ending!  Caughe me by surprise.

The thing is, I thought that gun was one of those hypodermic things they were talking about--that it was just meant to inject the radioactive isotope and not to kill.

I also love that YoYo Ma-Ennio Morricone CD.

That's one of my favorite CD's too.  -And Yo-Yo Ma still uses the theme from "Cinema Paradiso" as one of his encores in recital.

An extravigant purchase may be the new cast recording of Company which is $16.99]/b] on iTunes.  What's up with that??  Amazon has it listed on SALE for that much, and it's only a single disk.

And I just checked my shopping cart and was informed that the new JACQUES BREL recording has increased from $16.99 to $18.99!  DeepDiscount has it for $13.97.  I'm searching for COMPANY there.  If I find it, I'll order both.

I actually went ahead and picked that up last night at Virgin after I got out of the movies.  -Virgin seems to have a habit of putting some new releases out for sale before they're actual street date - at least when it comes to cast recordings.  *Although, since they were already selling the recording at the Barrymore...  I have a feeling that PS doesn't mind their recordings being sold as soon as they can (since the store (Virgin, at least) already has them in stock).

As for the pricing... I think part of it is due to the "limited appeal" of the OCR.  Another is the typically "generous" PS Classics packaging - slipcase, booklet (with notes, pictures and lyrics).  I also believe CD and DVD pricing just went up another tier, and quietly so.  I'm still amazed when I see sale prices of $16.99, $17.99?!?!?

It's priced $21.99 at Virgin.  Luckily(?), I had a $5.00 off V.I.P. Voucher, so...  -Although, I suspect that it will most likely be sale-priced as the week goes on - which is what they usually do with new releases lately.

Well, it's $14.95 on PS Classics own site: psclassics.com

*Of course, there is S&H...

As for the Topic of The Day...

Through a combination of Amazon.com pricing and Borders Readers Rewards Coupon Sales, I splurged on a couple of DVD boxed sets: "Six Feet Under", "Friends", "M*A*S*H*", and "Sex & The City".  Thatsa lotta DVDs!

MUSIC GUY, do you know YoYo Ma's Soul of the Tango? I adore this CD.

If you like that disc, you might want to track down a copy of "Los Tangueros".  It's two-piano arrangements of a couple of Piazzolla tangos played by Emmanuel Ax and Pablo Ziegler.  Some fun, nimble and passionate playing.

On iTunes, you don't get the neat little slip case and lyric book, so the price should be less, that was my point.

Mmm--I hadn't thought of that.  Maybe I'll add my name to the e-mail list to see what they eventually say.

Did they number the first 1000 copies?

Is the new COMPANY OCR a must have?  I have the OCR of course, and the "new" which I didn't care much for.  I guess listening to the OCR for 20 years kind of set those songs in my head a certain way.

It's definitely different.  I'd say listen to the clips on Amazon, iTunes, etc., and go from there.

Do you have the LuPone/Cerveris Sweeney Todd?  If you do, and you like it, then you should like this new Company.  However, if you didn't like it, well... Save your money.  *And it does use the same conceit/device/gimmick/call-it-what-you-will that the recent Sweeney used where the actors are their own orchestra.

*However, there are some nice bits of dialog included on the new disc, so...

-I mainly bought it since I have a couple of friends in the show.

Ah, well... Maybe they won't number the next pressing...  And even they do, since you have a low number...

Well, I certainly hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it seems the only downside of my new job is that I am scheduled to work on Friday night at 6:30, which provides a direct conflict of interest with our dear Brain release party...

Take off the roller skates, put down the tray, and go to the party!

You could be right.  I figure, like every other actor, he's only qualified to find work as a waiter or exotic dancer.  Maybe I should send him those boxers now?

I missed a lot of fun last night.

Given that it was all fun...and not a little bit of it really silly (which is fun unto itself)...I shall not be "catching up" beyond the 9 or 10 pages I've already read.

For some reason, being back at work is not conducive to appreciating "fun" in the strictest sense of that word.

TOD:

I'm a little embarrassed to mention this, because I had dissed the object on this very board a few weeks ago.  But I went and bought the DROWSY CHAPERONE cast recording LP that cost $50.  Not only did I buy one, I bought two, thinking that I could sell one and make a killing on eBay at some point since they were only supposed to print only 1000 copies.  However, I now see that even though Ghostlight has sold out of the original 1000, they are telling people on their website to send email and they will be notified when the LP is back in stock!  Grrrrrrrrrrr...

Oh, I forgot about that.  I got one also, #581/1000.  I scanned the cover of the album to make a booklet for the CD.  Here's what the album looks like:
