Didn't love the Morricone selection - but it was okay. I HATE Celine Dion as a singer - all mannerisms, poses, every syllable studied and rehearsed, nothing real, no feeling for a lyric and enough reverb to choke a horse.

However, that theme, Deborah's Theme from Once Upon A Time In America - my favorite Morricone piece ever - the Bergmans didn't really rise to the occasion - very cliched lyric, but nice to hear anyway.

That was a splendid moment with Morricone. The Oscars did a much more dignified and respectful special Oscar presentation to him than they accorded Alex North many years back.

I would fight against it, and I would not be happy. And I mean that honestly. I hate that stuff. I know it's the game and I know everyone has to play, but there's a point at which it becomes nothing but crass, and Dreamworks and Paramount passed that point before the film ever opened and it really did backfire and hurt them. People DISCOVERED Chicago - it was NOT shoved down people's throats.

In the early part of the Morricone orchestral medley, there was an absolutely beautifully played oboe solo carrying the melody line. Wonderful reed playing!
