We started with a quiche lorraine as an appetizer, followed by salad grand ferme with homemade croutons, followed by a three-cheese pasta with red bell pepper sauce, and finished with red velvet cake with raspberries and blueberries.

The raspberries and blueberries made it all healthy.  :)

You will miss MBarnum.  Our reunion is on the 14th, however, we will be in West L.A. & couldn’t go to Santa Ana.  :(

Were do you normally enter California when you drive to Los Angles?  For this event will you go through near San Diego?

Good Evening!

...I hate it when I leave the house without my cell phone...

:-\

*Of course, in my pre-cellphone days, that "disconnected" feeling was never an issue.  So, ah well...

...And if I had had my cell phone on me then, I would have returned DR FJL's call earlier... although I don't think I would have made it time for dinner for dinner with the Corgis.

FJL-Next time I’m in NY I want to go to your house for dinner.  It sounds delicious, except for the raspberries.

Our home came with raspberry bushes & I have eaten more than enough to last a lifetime.

See, Francois - I'm not the only one, re Brokeback.  I didn't hate it, mind you, I  just didn't find it anything other than ordinary and it never involved me emotionally.

Gee!

G*d forbid you'd be THE only one not to care for that movie! Well, it's sure is ordinary since it deals with cow-boys and nothing exciting happens to them at all, except that they fall in love (big deal), have to hide it from society (dull) marry and pretend to be "normal" (so what?!) and then one is killed because, so it seems, of his sexual orientation (Nothing to write home about! Happens everyday!)

I do believe it DOES help a lot if one is slightly"gay concerned" to be emotionally moved by the whole film and  cry during the last minutes! "Straight" people might be more difficult to be "convinced"!
But that's alright! One can live without having to like that film!
We're not Miss Coulter! We're.... "tolerant"!

Just thought Hollywood had guts to produce such a film in our days and age!

Am I too verbose? :D

And just for anyone's future reference... If you're roommate says it will be fun waiting in line for tickets to a taping of "Showtime At The Apollo" ...  Well... I guess it would have been fun if there were still tickets left by the time we almost got to the theatre lobby... :-\

...Apparently, they were giving out two tickets per person... So, the "smart people" at the front of the line brought their children with them - who, apparently, since the have "kid-friendly" nights, were also entitled to two tickets (per person).  In any case... We did have a sort of fun time waiting along 125th Street.

*And my roommate bought me dinner at Manna's, so that was nice.  And the peach cobbler was very good today.  -You betcha I ordered dessert!

Today, DB (Dear Bloog) and I buried three Slinkies on the playground. I wonder how long before all three of them are dug up.

We also buried two keys that go to the swimming pool and a mailbox at an apartment complex Bloog used to live at. Lately, Brody has been looking for the key to fit the lock on the gate so he can "get out of here." He was convinced that the key I keep on my shoe (so I don't lose it) went to the gate. He kept asking me for my key, so I let him use it. He was shocked when it didn't open the gate. Now he and his accomplices think that the key in Brandon's dad's car will open the gate.

We buried one key right next to the gate and the other in Brody's favorite digging spot. Now let's see how long before he digs them up and tries to escape again.

Little known fact, Bernstein's song cycle, "I Hate Music" was originally titled "I Hate Camping"... But then after "meeting" DR DerBrucer on a weekend outing... Well... You get the picture...

DR FJL - Thank you for your phone call and dinner invite.  And I'm sorry for my quasi-R.S.V.P. here on the site.  Sounds like a wonderful time was had by all.

-And if you happen to have any cake left, I could always come by tomorrow for afternoon tea.  :)

Btw, where did you get the cake from?  Or did Skip bake?

DR Cillalliz - Ah, yes, Mr. Groff's spittle.  Some nights it's bad, some nights it's really bad.  A friend of mine got spit on when he saw the show - and he was sitting in the fifth row!

I've always wondered if that's something that voice teachers and coaches - and even conductors - ever try to teach/prevent.  There are a couple of spitters out there, including my beloved Hugh Panaro.  -And since most of Lestat was dimly lit, any time he spit, it always caught the light.  Howard McGillin also used to spit - I remember it during Drood and The Secret Garden.

Is that why there's a spit orchestra?!

In any case...

Spring Awakening is what it is.  I'd have to say I was more taken with the whole "experience" of it, rather than the piece itself.  -And from a musical standpoint, Kim Grigsby has done some wonderful vocal work with that cast.

And, frankly, I think the finale seems kind of extraneous.

Yes, they had to call the show "Drool" because of that, which he did not find that drole! ;)

When in April? I have to make a short trip there in April. I don't know the details yet, though.

DearReaderLaura,
I am going to attend the Ray Courts Show in April which runs the 27th and 28th. So will probably come down the 26th and leave the 29th.

Well... that's why some pit players play with baseball caps.

*Actually, they usually were ballcaps if the sound designer chooses to mount the mics on the brim of the cap.  -At least for the violins and violas.

And during the original run of Les Miz there was so much stuff rolling into the pit - including actors! - that they started putting netting over the pit.  Alas, when Nell Carter lost her balance in DC on stage at the National Theatre in DC during one of the runs of Ain't Misbehavin', there was no net...
